Fans are already casting HBO’s Poison Ivy series, and a ComicBook.com poll on X points to a surprising frontrunner — just not Sydney Sweeney.

You know something big is coming down the DC pipeline when even the rumour of a new casting sets the internet off. This time it’s the HBO Poison Ivy series, which, despite not having a single cast or crew member officially tied down, already has fans squabbling over their ideal Ivy. And no, before you ask, Sydney Sweeney’s not even in the frame – she’s not named among the candidates at all.

The Fan Poll Circus

ComicBook.com got the speculation mill grinding by launching a poll on X to see which actress fans want to see don the green and villainous shoes. This poll isn’t coming out of nowhere: HBO reportedly has a Poison Ivy series in the works, with Lauren LeFranc – who did showrunner duty on The Penguin – in talks to produce. DC Comics and Warner Bros. are developing the show together, and it’s apparently going to stand apart from the Matt Reeves/Battinson universe.

The poll put forward four names for Poison Ivy: Ana de Armas, Madeline Brewer, Nathalie Emmanuel and Madeleine Petsch. As ever with internet polls, fans weren’t content sticking to the menu, so there was plenty of chaos in the replies with write-in votes.

In its first few hours online, the poll picked up more than 250 votes from eager DC Universe fans.

Among the comments, you had some properly random shouts: Sophie Turner’s name came up (presumably from someone missing Sansa), Eiza Gonzalez had her own cheering section, and one commenter vouched for Bridget Regan based on her stint as Ivy in Batwoman Series 3. If nothing else, Ivy loyalists are a creative bunch.

Who’s Actually Up for It?

  • Ana de Armas
  • Madeline Brewer
  • Nathalie Emmanuel
  • Madeleine Petsch

Worth noting: Madeleine Petsch seemed to drum up the most direct support, with several fans posting her name and picture. There were even a few wild cards like Elle Fanning, but none of those have come from any official source – just wishful thinking in the replies.

What’s Going On With the Show?

Right now, nobody knows who’s actually playing Poison Ivy – or, frankly, even writing the show. HBO has not confirmed a cast, a showrunner, any writers, or a release date. At the moment, it’s all at the rumour, poll and armchair casting stage.

For the record, Poison Ivy (Dr Pamela Isley) is a bit of a cult favourite, blending eco-activism with crime and general Gotham chaos, plus some eye-watering plant magic. The last time she appeared in live-action was way back in 1997, with Uma Thurman’s gloriously camp performance in Batman & Robin. Since then, she’s stayed off screens outside of the odd TV cameo.
