VisionQuest theory: the mysterious Client hunting Vision is Doctor Doom
A fan theory reckons Disney+ series VisionQuest quietly lines up a shock Avengers: Doomsday reveal through a mystery character — even though no crossover cast is confirmed.
So, VisionQuest is shaping up to be more pivotal to the MCU than anyone suspected. There’s a cracking new fan theory doing the rounds, one that argues the Disney+ show is essentially a lead-in for the big event film, Avengers: Doomsday. Only, there’s a twist: none of VisionQuest’s core cast have actually been confirmed for Doomsday itself, but the way things are shaping up, it might all come down to one shadowy character called the Client.
VisionQuest is the last MCU series to air before Avengers: Doomsday releases.
Enter the White Vision
VisionQuest picks up with that ‘new’ Vision we got at the end of WandaVision — the one rebuilt from the original’s body, but who’s adamant he isn’t the same bloke. He’s got all the old memories rattling around in his head, but apparently none of the feelings, so he’s set off on a journey to carve out a life (and personality) of his own. This adventure puts him in orbit with a collection of other artificial intelligences, who are apparently forming some sort of makeshift family. Charming.
Things kick off properly when a mercenary called Paladin is roped in to go after Vision. The one footing the bill? That would be the aforementioned Client, who’s shrouded in mystery but comes loaded with a few tantalising clues.
Who’s Pulling the Strings?
So what do we know about the Client? Not a whole lot, on the face of it — but the details themselves are rather juicy:
- He’s shown to be absolutely tech-savvy, managing to hack straight into Paladin’s highly secure comms.
- When the job is set up, the Client makes it clear he wants Vision ‘intact’, not specifically ‘alive’ — suggests he sees Vision as property, not a person.
- He’s male (that’s explicitly stated), but he disguises his voice with a synthesizer anyway. Either being overly-cautious, or just relishing a bit of drama.
- He’s not exactly patience personified — gets quite sarky about Paladin’s work ethic, which doesn’t exactly scream “close friend or relative.”
Put all that together and the theory crowd reckon we might actually be seeing the set-up for Doctor Doom’s entrance. And, honestly, that would explain a lot.
Doom Theory Gathers Steam
Here’s why the Doom speculation’s gaining traction. In the comics, Victor von Doom’s a technical genius with a penchant for robotics, including all those Doombots that can stand in for him on an average day. The idea of Doom wanting Vision captured but unharmed certainly fits — he’d want to dissect the world’s most sophisticated robot, or maybe even work out how Vision ticks so he can improve his own entourage. Plus, this sort of job — hunting down one of the most powerful AIs going — is exactly the sort of thing Doom would outsource. The man never gets his own hands dirty unless he has to. And the snippy, condescending attitude towards Paladin? That’s Doctor Doom through and through.
Another detail giving the game away: Doom supposedly has a plan to fix things after the messy business of Earths colliding in the MCU. If Vision holds information, or power, or is involved in that multiversal chaos, naturally Doom would want to track him down first — either to confiscate something dangerous, or press-gang Vision into helping. That brings us to an extra wrinkle.
Yet another fan theory says three witches will team up with Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. And yes, Wanda Maximoff — or a version of her — could be in that trio. Would Doom be looking for Vision as some sort of offering to Scarlet Witch, or maybe to recruit both to his side? You can imagine Doom thinking several moves ahead, as always.
