One alum of Evil Dead’s 2013 reboot set tongues wagging by musing about giving Sam Raimi a ring to talk a possible comeback.

There’s never a dull moment in Evil Dead fandom, is there? If you thought the days of wild speculation about familiar faces returning were behind us, think again—because this week, Jane Levy has singlehandedly cranked the rumour mill back into overdrive.

For anyone out of the loop: Levy starred as ‘Mia’ in the 2013 reboot, barely making it out alive (which, to be honest, is more than you can say for most in this series). Ever since, fans have been wondering if she’d ever get another shot at demon-slaying. Now, Levy’s thrown a cheeky bit of petrol on the fire herself.

After wrapping up a screening of the 2013 film, Jane Levy put it to the audience: “I have a question. Do you guys think Mia should come back to Evil Dead?” That landed her a round of applause, before she joked: “Let’s call Sam’s Skype number right now and see if he wants Mia to come back.”

Evil Dead: The Current State of Play

This little moment comes at an interesting time. In recent months, rumours have continued to build that Mia could turn up in the next big franchise entry, Evil Dead Wrath, due out in 2028. There’s even speculation about her popping up elsewhere in the Sam Raimi-created series. Nothing official, mind you, just the usual internet swirl.

It’s worth remembering: although Mia survived the reboot’s bloodbath, the Evil Dead bosses didn’t tap her for a direct follow-up. Instead, the series has gone for a bit of anthology, with an all-new cast for 2023’s entry, this year’s Burn, and the impending Wrath prequel, which is set in 1972. Keeps things fresh, but also a bit infuriating if you’re in it for the callbacks.

Evil Dead Wrath, the 2028 prequel, is set in 1972 and, according to producer Robert Tapert, is “another great departure” for the franchise.

Raimi & Campbell: Out. Mia: Maybe In?

The backbone of all this is still the original Sam Raimi trinity: The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987), and Army of Darkness (1993), with Bruce Campbell’s Ash front and centre. Campbell’s no longer in the picture, though. He told the Detroit Free Press that his cancer diagnosis led him to close the door on Ash, adding the series has now “moved away from Sam Raimi” and “moved away from Ash and Bruce Campbell”. So, the field is wide open for a new face—or, perhaps, a returning one.

The bottom line: Jane Levy isn’t confirming anything. But she’s certainly making sure her name stays tied to the Evil Dead conversation. With the way this fandom works, that’s usually enough to keep the whispers alive until Sam Raimi or some studio exec finally tips their hand.
