Sullivan’s Crossing is sticking around: CTV has renewed the romantic drama for Season 5, locking it in before Season 4 even wrapped.

If you were bracing yourself for yet another beloved drama meeting the axe, you can relax — at least as far as 'Sullivan's Crossing' is concerned. The Canadian romance series isn't going anywhere just yet. In fact, CTV have jumped in early and given it a green light for a fifth season, all before the current one has even wrapped up. Surprise, surprise: sometimes, your favourites actually survive the broadcast bloodbath.

Renewal Confirmed — No Cliffhangers Here

While most shows keep fans guessing till the bitter end about whether they're getting another series, Bell Media's Upfronts event brought the confirmation: 'Sullivan's Crossing' is officially coming back for Season 5. The news came out even as Season 4 is still playing out on telly. No need to sign any petitions or fire off desperate tweets — your romantic drama fix is secured for a bit longer.

Back to Nova Scotia

The show, for those who've somehow managed to avoid it so far, stars Morgan Kohan and Chad Michael Murray. Once again, they're packing their bags for Nova Scotia, as that's where filming will continue for the next season. Always good to see a production sticking to gorgeous real locations rather than yet another gloomy soundstage somewhere.

The Cast Cannot Help Themselves

Morgan Kohan couldn't resist having a bit of a laugh at the expense of the viewers who've stuck through all the dramatic turns. 'Sorry for putting you through the ringer. We love you. Please stick around.' Can’t say she’s wrong, given the show’s reputation for wringing out every last possible tear from its audience.

Chad Michael Murray, meanwhile, seemed far more preoccupied with an ongoing debate about Liam (played by Marcus Rosner). Kohan admitted her own mum is quite partial to Liam's ongoing melodrama, but Murray was quick to clarify where his loyalties actually lie: 'I like Marcus. I'm not team Liam. I'm team Marcus.' Honestly, fair play to him for supporting the actor over the character — it's all a bit meta, but that's TV these days.

'You guys, get ready, 'cause that's what we do. There's a lot of ups and downs, a lot of trials and tribulations and a lot of tears.'

Murray seems determined to warn (threaten?) fans that the next series will continue its tradition of emotional rollercoasters. Consider yourself warned.

What Happened in Season 4, Then?

  • Liam barrels back into town — unexpected, obviously.
  • His reappearance ramps up the tension between Maggie and Cal, because nothing is ever straightforward in these places.
  • Cal discovers Maggie's been less than forthcoming about a kiss with Liam; everything promptly goes sideways.
  • Turns out, Liam hadn't done a runner — he’d been held hostage for three years as a war journalist. Which is just about as dramatic as it sounds.
  • The finale more or less sews up that storyline, so no one's left hanging for a year about it.

So there you go — the show isn't just endlessly dragging out the same old drama, at least not without giving you a bit of closure before they move on to the next round.

With Season 5 now officially in the works, the show will pick things up straight after the events of Season 4.
