Wayans Brothers Tease Scary Movie 6 Could Finally Unlock a White Chicks Sequel
White Chicks 2? Twenty-two years later, the Wayans Brothers fan favorite may finally be getting a sequel.
If you still quote 'hold my poodle' or mentally replay Terry Crews' infamous dance number every time you hear a Vanessa Carlton song, here comes some news straight from the early 2000s: a White Chicks sequel might actually happen after 22 long years of wishful thinking. Yes, you read that right.
So, why now?
The Wayans brothers (Marlon and Shawn, with director/eldest brother Keenan Ivory in tow) have been making the rounds, hyping up their true return to Scary Movie for part 6. In case you missed it, it's their first time steering the satire-horror franchise since Scary Movie 2—the series got handed off to others around part 3, slowly fizzled, and finally stopped after part 5 in 2013.
So now, with the OG Wayans back in charge and the franchise looking to recapture its chaotic magic (and hopefully its audience), the question comes up: could the brothers use this momentum to finally deliver White Chicks 2?
Are they interested?
The answer is basically a big yes, with an asterisk. Marlon told Entertainment Tonight, 'We're game.' Shawn chimed in with the caveat: if Scary Movie 6 actually does numbers at the box office, that could be enough to get the wheels turning for White Chicks 2.
There was even a fun bit where Anna Faris (the original Cindy from Scary Movie, finally back for part 6) jumped into the conversation, basically pitching herself to get in on the sequel shenanigans. No one said no.
Flashback: Reliving the original
If you somehow missed the cult, meme-ready White Chicks, here’s a refresher. Released in 2004, Marlon and Shawn play FBI agents who (for reasons both plot-driven and completely ridiculous) go undercover as hotel heiress sisters using some, let’s say, aggressively noticeable makeup. Hijinks and physical comedy ensue. Critics might've hated it (hello, 15% on Rotten Tomatoes), but audiences did not: with a $37 million budget and a $113 million global haul, the movie more than found its crowd.
The film got big mileage out of scenes like that singalong, the dance-off, and of course, Terry Crews, who steals literally every scene he’s in. Is the humor subtle? Absolutely not. Does it work? Enough people would say yes that it’s still quoted today.
Why a sequel is complicated (but maybe inevitable)
Here’s the tricky part: some elements of White Chicks definitely have not aged gracefully. The concept—a modern White Chicks—is probably even more controversial. But in 2024, nostalgia can cash bigger checks than most original ideas, especially if you deliver the same kind of 'nothing off limits' energy the new Scary Movie seems to promise.
The brothers themselves admit it's not a done deal. Scary Movie 6 comes first (hitting theaters June 5), and if fans turn out, studio decision-makers might be ready to greenlight some mid-2000s chaos (or at least put out more sequels).
Can't have enough sequels?
- Scary Movie 6 launches June 5, bringing Wayans brothers and Anna Faris back
- If that lands? White Chicks 2 is much more likely to become reality
- Also, brace for the possibility of more Scary Movie sequels
- If White Chicks 2 happens, it’ll be interesting to see how (or if) it updates the original premise for 2024
Bottom line: the sequel nobody really expected could be just one box office hit away. For better or worse, studios rarely resist the siren song of familiar IP—especially when its jokes are still being quoted two decades later.
