Wagner Moura weighs in on The Last House 2 after that ending
After that shock ending, Wagner Moura has weighed in on The Last House 2 on Netflix — though a sequel still isn’t locked in.
Netflix dropped The Last House recently, and you can bet people are already fussing about what that ending means — plus, of course, whether we’ll be getting a sequel. The sci-fi thriller wraps up with about as much clarity as a foggy morning in Manchester, so naturally, all eyes are on Wagner Moura (he’s Jason in the film) to see if he’s coming back for round two.
Ending, Explained (Sort Of)
If you haven’t caught it yet, here’s the gist: the film throws a family into lockdown inside their own house, haunted by some strange creature lurking outside. It’s Moura as Jason Delgado, Greta Lee as Ann, and Riley Chung playing Ruth — not forgetting Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbos in support. As the horror ramps up, plenty of tension comes not just from the monster, but from dad’s stubbornness. Jason, thick as two short planks when it comes to listening to his daughter Ruth, finally has a breakthrough by the film’s end.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Moura connected Jason's decision (he spares the creature rather than offing it) to his relationship with Ruth. Rather than your usual ‘monster bad, kill monster’ malarkey, it’s all about listening to the kids for once. Here’s what Moura pointed out about Jason’s transformation and his daughter’s warnings:
'His daughter is always telling him something, and he doesn't listen to her. The entire film, she's saying something, and he responds just with this sort of arrogance that adults have towards their children. And I was like, "Man, we really have to listen to everybody, but especially to our kids."'
Turns out, Ruth had it right from the off, and Jason finally gets it — just as the credits are about to roll. Moura reckons that’s real progress. So by the time Jason actually listens and chooses not to kill the thing, you’re meant to feel he’s changed a bit (better late than never, eh?).
That Very Murky Ending
Once the family’s ordeal seems to be over (at least, inside the house), they set off on a boat and send a desperate radio call out into the ether: “Is anyone alive out there?” Eventually, someone responds — all they’ll say is “hello.”
Moura also said, 'What she said from the beginning was right. She was right.'
So, take from that what you will. It leaves the film dangling with a big question mark, just ripe for a sequel to pick up the pieces.
So About That Sequel...
As it stands, Netflix hasn’t officially announced The Last House 2. Moura is keen, according to his chat with ScreenRant, but for the moment, it’s all wishful thinking and guesses. Even he admits he genuinely doesn’t know if it’ll happen, but he’s definitely up for returning as Jason if and when the call comes.
No sequel is set — Netflix remains quiet on The Last House 2.
If you’re itching for more, the original’s right there to stream and re-watch, just in case you missed any clues the first time round.
