Twisted Metal season 3 has wrapped — and Anthony Mackie says everybody is back
It’s time to mark your diary for Twisted Metal Season 3, as Anthony Mackie has shared a major release date update.
Here we go, then: Twisted Metal fans have a bit of news to chew on, delivered straight from the man in the lead. Anthony Mackie—who does double-duty as star and executive producer—has just let slip that filming is done and dusted for the show’s third season. If you’ve been following the carnage, you’ll know this series is Peacock’s wildest post-apocalyptic action comedy, drawn from the PlayStation game where road rage is practically an Olympic sport.
Filming on Twisted Metal Season 3 wrapped in 2026 after kicking off last June.
Production shake-up and a new boss
The third outing was officially confirmed by Peacock all the way back in November 2025. But it isn’t all smooth tarmac: there’s a significant behind-the-scenes change, with Michael Jonathan Smith—the bloke who developed Twisted Metal alongside Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick—stepping away from showrunner duties. Into his seat slides David Reed, whose main claim to fame is working on The Boys. We’ll see how that changes the flavour, but it’s not your everyday swap-out.
Mackie on the sheer madness of it all
Mackie revealed all this in a fresh chat with ScreenRant, making it clear he’s still properly chuffed with how gleefully absurd things got on set. He didn’t mince words about how much stupidity was involved—and that’s apparently a good thing for this show. Mackie also went out of his way to hype up both the familiar faces and the newcomers in the cast and crew. Notably, Anthony Carrigan is back for more gloriously weird business, which fans will be happy to hear.
Here’s Mackie putting it in his own words when talking about the arc of the story and bringing everyone back:
"We were able to get everybody back, and we were able to evolve the story so much more. And [we were] lucky enough to get Anthony Carrigan back. It’s just a really fun season. I feel like if you watch Season 2 from Season 1, you see, 'Wow, there's really something happening here.' And Season 3 just goes off the Richter, man."
He also tossed plenty of praise at Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Quiet—a perfect foil to Mackie’s John Doe. According to Mackie, the two of them are ‘just an awesome duo’, and it sounds like the mayhem between their characters is very much back on the menu for this season.
What comes next
No confirmed air date for Season 3 yet—Peacock’s keeping quiet. But there’s an obvious pattern: Season 1 landed in 2023, Season 2 in 2025, and if they keep to a two-year gap, we’re likely not seeing new episodes until 2027 at the earliest. All told, though, with the entire main team back and a proper creative handover in place, this next batch of Twisted Metal looks set for more carnage, absurdity, and the occasional punch-up.
