Daisy Ridley’s next horror movie is a road trip with a pregnancy that might not be human
Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley is leading a new road‑trip horror from Ry Russo‑Young — and she’s not the only big name along for the ride.
Big news for horror fans and anyone who likes to keep tabs on ex-Jedi careers: Daisy Ridley is back in the spotlight, signed on for a brand new horror flick called Get Rid of It. No, it’s not about house cleaning, but it does sound like one of those nightmare road trips you won’t soon forget.
‘Propulsive and playful, this project’s strength is its compelling point of view and heart beneath the horror. I’m thrilled to bring it to life with such an extraordinary and gifted group of collaborators.’
That’s director Ry Russo-Young talking up the film—she’s helming from a script by Gemma Holdway. The production kicks off at the very start of 2027, so anyone expecting a trailer tomorrow will have to sit tight. In addition to Ridley, we’ve got Sosie Bacon and Simon Rex rounding out the main cast. Yes, that’s the same Simon Rex who went from MTV VJ to Red Rocket and back again.
The Premise
You’re probably wondering what Ridley’s signed herself up for here. In Get Rid of It, she plays Harper, who ends up pregnant after a one-night stand with an enigmatic stranger named Miller (that’s Rex). Things don’t exactly go according to plan—Harper packs up with her sister Jessie (Bacon) for a cross-country escape. Here’s the twist: the pregnancy’s not entirely normal. What Harper’s carrying might not be human, and you can guess the direction this road trip heads from there. Expect body horror, family drama, the works.
Filming for Get Rid of It begins in early 2027.
To spell it out: cameras won’t roll for another year, but the hype machine is in motion.
Cast and Crew
- Daisy Ridley: Still best known as Rey from the Star Wars sequels, but recently branching out. She’ll show up next as the lead in Ti West’s Ebenezer—a horror-thriller starring Johnny Depp, just to keep things even weirder. She’s done period drama (Murder on the Orient Express), indie Shakespeare (Ophelia), a bit of voice work for Peter Rabbit, and not long ago tried swimming in Young Woman and the Sea.
- Sosie Bacon: Currently starring in crime drama Scarpetta, acting opposite Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis. Not exactly lightweight company.
- Simon Rex: Had a comeback with Red Rocket. If you remember him from Blink Twice, Monarch Cove, or his earlier MTV days, yes, it’s the same guy.
- Ry Russo-Young: Director credits include Before I Fall (teen time-loop thriller with Zoey Deutch), The Sun is Also a Star (YA romance), and a couple of episodes of Apple TV’s Shrinking.
- David Lancaster: Producing. If you care about awards, he produced Whiplash (Oscar-nominated for Best Picture) and Nightcrawler.
If you’re still keeping a spreadsheet of horror movies set on the open road—and why wouldn’t you be—make space for this one in the ‘coming soonish’ column.
