Jeremy Allen White met with Marvel about Wolverine — and it could start with a small role
The Emmy-winning star of The Bear is said to have met Marvel about X-Men — and the role in question will raise a few eyebrows.
There are two things guaranteed to get people arguing online: who the next James Bond will be, and who’s mad enough to step into Wolverine’s knuckle-duster gloves for the MCU. Well, the latest rumour mill is working overtime: now it’s Jeremy Allen White in the frame for Marvel’s X-Men reboot, if you believe The Insneider. Apparently, he’s already had a quiet word with Marvel Studios about playing Logan—the berserker himself. This comes as speculation swirls about White being up for 007 as well. Frankly, I’m not sure he’s got a tuxedo in him, but Wolverine? I can squint and see it.
Already, there are whispers that Jeremy Allen White has met with Marvel to discuss what is expected to be a small role in its upcoming X-Men reboot — which would lead to more screen time down the line. A lot more.
White’s been up-front in the past about not being dead keen on blockbuster, franchise-heavy jobs—at least, not until recently. He was all in for his role on The Bear, which is proper, grown-up telly, but has since dipped his toes into franchise territory. If you missed it, he did voice work for Rotta the Hutt—Jabba’s grubby little offspring—in that Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu flick. So, maybe the Marvel itch is getting him after all.
The X-Men Line-Up So Far
The X-Men reboot isn’t being shy about scooping up recognisable faces. Here’s who’s lined up so far, according to the grapevine:
- Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier
- Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister
- Kit Connor as Cyclops
- Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
- Inde Navarrette as Rogue
- Maya Boyd as Storm
- Asa Germann as Angel
- Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
The new X-Men film is being directed by Jake Schreier, who’s working off a script from Lee Sung Jin—his collaborator on Beef—plus Joanna Calo. Kevin Feige’s producing, and the whole thing is apparently heading to cinemas on 5 May 2028.
Just for giggles, Ben Wang (of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping fame) is rumoured to be in the running for Iceman as well. All told, they’re not pulling any punches with these casting choices.
Jeremy’s Complicated Marvel History
Thing is, White’s flirted with Marvel before—and admits it didn’t exactly go swimmingly. He shared in an old interview that he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder when he met with a Marvel team for a different franchise picture years ago. Asked straight up why he should do their movie, White said the execs were less than impressed—telling him to sod off, essentially, and he was just as happy to walk out. In his own words, the direction so many actors end up going (‘the apex mountain’ being a Marvel gig) is a bit puzzling, even if he recognises the quality directors and actors who do go there. He’s also said, more than once, that he’d rather be doing a solid drama on a sensible budget than diving into superhero chaos.
Marvel’s new X-Men is due to hit UK cinemas in May 2028, barring the usual production carnage.
