Skipping Toy Story 5 on the big screen? Here’s how soon you might be able to stream it on Disney+ at home.

Right, if you’re anything like me, you grew up with at least three Toy Story films on constant loop, and you probably always suspected Pixar might never let this lot retire gracefully. Now here we are: Toy Story 5 is officially in cinemas as of 19 June 2026. Fans can breathe easy (or prepare themselves emotionally)—Woody’s back, Buzz is back, Jessie’s there, and yes, the original crew is still doing the voices: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack.

This time around, the toys are having a bit of an existential crisis. Turns out, kids these days would rather swipe on tablets than play make-believe. It hits the gang hard enough that they’re off on a new adventure, trying to figure out their purpose when actual children are more interested in scrolling than storytelling. Pixar leans right in on the emotional heartstrings, and it’s clearly paying off—93% on Rotten Tomatoes already, in case you care about those numbers.

So, When Will Toy Story 5 Be Streaming?

Understandably, not everyone’s up for a crowded multiplex in late June, so let’s talk about when you’ll be able to watch Toy Story 5 from the comfort of your own flat (or bed, no one’s judging). Disney’s running the show distribution-wise, and based on how they’ve handled recent Pixar releases, there’s a clear pattern: big new Disney films usually get between 60 and 100 days in cinemas before they land on Disney+.

Take Hoppers, for example: out in cinemas on 6 March this year, then streaming on Disney+ 89 days later, by the 3rd of June. That was actually quite speedy. But—and it’s a big but—the bigger the box office haul, the longer Disney hangs onto that cinema exclusivity. Toy Story 5 is likely to break bank, if those early projections (up to $150 million opening weekend in the US) are anything to go by. Wouldn’t expect anything under a hundred days for Disney+.

If I had to put money on it, we’re looking at early October to mid-October 2026 for the Disney+ release, potentially even November if it keeps packing out screenings.

Digital Release—Before Disney+?

Worth noting, Disney’s become rather fond of Premium Video on Demand (PVOD)—Amazon, Apple, Google, you know the drill. Before Toy Story 5 pops up on Disney+, you’ll likely get the option to buy or rent it online.

Here’s the typical drill with PVOD for big Disney/Pixar titles:

  • PVOD rental/purchase could drop as soon as late August or September
  • Expect to pay around £19.99 to £29.99 for a purchase, or £14.99 to £24.99 for a 48-hour rental
  • The film will still be showing in cinemas at this point, but if you’re itching for a rewatch without the guy next to you rustling popcorn, PVOD’s your best bet

Official streaming and digital dates are still under wraps. And Disney won’t stick their neck out with a schedule until box office numbers keep rolling in. In the meantime, everything points to a staggered digital release: PVOD first, Disney+ afterwards—quite likely October, possibly slipping to November if Toy Story 5 keeps breaking records.

The Returning Cast

Not much change for your main cast, which is probably the whole point for nostalgia’s sake:

  • Tom Hanks as Woody, still the cowboy with more emotional baggage than most soap operas
  • Tim Allen, once again as Buzz Lightyear—and still convinced he’s a real space ranger, fair play
  • Joan Cusack back as Jessie, the cowgirl with the best yodel in animation
'It’s going to be a while until Disney confirms the exact date that Toy Story 5 will come out on Disney+ or digital, and its performance at the box office will likely provide a better idea as to what we can anticipate.'
