Studio figures put Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey up another notch at the global box office.

Right, so it hasn't exactly been a quiet couple of weeks for Christopher Nolan. His latest, The Odyssey, is positively steamrolling its way through cinemas worldwide—and it's not showing signs of slowing any time soon. If box office numbers are your thing (or even if they're not, frankly), some of these are a bit wild. It’s not every day a Greek epic leaves a fashion comedy sequel in its dust.

The Odyssey reached $727.9 million in global box office revenue after just 12 days in cinemas.

Box office bragging rights

So, here’s the headline stat: After less than a fortnight since its 17 July 2026 debut, The Odyssey has already pulled in $727.9 million worldwide. That breaks down into $320.5 million domestically (that’s US and Canada, for those keeping track) and another $407.4 million from everywhere else. Not too shabby, especially when you remember we’re talking about a three-hour retelling of ancient poems, not the latest video game adaptation.

This puts Nolan’s epic as the new number four highest-grossing film of 2026, just behind a frankly odd mix: Toy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Michael (yes, the Michael Jackson biopic). And in case you’re wondering, yes—The Odyssey has already overtaken The Devil Wears Prada 2, which finished its run with a relatively modest $690.9 million. Clearly, the adventures of Odysseus are currently out-fashioning the adventures of Miranda Priestly and co.

Still more to come

Here’s where it gets even more impressive: The film hasn’t even opened in China yet, which is basically the world’s second box office piggy bank. Industry watchers are already betting on The Odyssey to cross the fabled $1 billion mark worldwide, provided the Chinese audience gets on board too. If Variety’s projections are right, third weekend numbers could hit somewhere between $50 million and $60 million, even with the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day hitting screens. So, if you thought a Marvel tentpole might slow things down, not happening—at least, not just yet.

Cast and crew

As for who you’ll see on screen: Nolan’s assembled a predictably A-list group. Matt Damon takes the lead as Odysseus. Tom Holland is on board as Telemachus. Anne Hathaway gets to do something properly dramatic as Penelope, and Robert Pattinson slots in as Antinous. You can probably picture those faces from the trailer, or possibly from every major release of the last decade-and-a-half.

All in all, the combination of an old-school epic with Nolan’s usual popcorn-and-thought approach seems to be exactly what ticket-buyers wanted this summer—at least, judging by the receipts piling up and the competition left struggling to keep up.
