The Mummy 4 resurrects fan favourite previously killed off
In a fresh casting update, The Mummy 4 has confirmed a surprising return to its ensemble.
The Mummy 4 casting news is getting a bit more bonkers than anyone expected. Not only do we have Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz officially back, but now Kevin J. O'Connor has rejoined the fold for the next entry, in case you fancied one of the series’ more slippery characters making a comeback. Yes, Beni Gabor himself — the same Beni who famously met a rather grisly end in the original 1999 film — is apparently back for another go round. Plot details are still firmly under wraps, but let’s get into what’s actually going on, shall we?
The Mummy 4 will be released on October 15, 2027.
Beni Rises from the Dead?
Now, if you remember anything about the original The Mummy, you’ll recall O’Connor’s Beni as equal parts weasel and comedy relief, flitting between whoever happened to be in charge and holding open the occasional cursed tomb or two. He was last seen in that first film accidentally triggering a trap and getting devoured by a swarm of ravenous scarabs — so, not much ambiguity about his fate. Dead as a doornail. So, hearing he’s back for the new film raises a few eyebrows. Whether this is a full-on resurrection, some oddball flashback, or a new supernatural loophole, we’re not being told yet. Make of that what you will, but Universal’s clearly not above bending reality for the sake of the franchise.
If you’re wondering what O’Connor’s been up to outside of hieroglyphic antics, he’s actually kept busy with a string of film and telly work — Van Helsing, There Will Be Blood, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, and popping up in Chicago P.D and Catch-22, to name a few.
The Rest of the Gang and Production Details
Elsewhere, Brendan Fraser has been dropping sly hints about stepping back into Rick O’Connell’s battered boots — and given how well his comeback act has gone over lately, Universal will be hoping that streak holds. Rachel Weisz is also set to return, alongside new addition Michael Johnston (fresh from Obsession), joining the series for his own bit of sand-and-sarcophagus action.
- Directors: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett
- Screenplay: David Coggeshall
- Producers: Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, Clayton Townsend
- Executive Producers: Brendan Fraser, Jason F. Brown (Hivemind)
One thing’s for certain — Universal’s evidently banking on nostalgia with a hefty shot of supernatural hand-waving to keep fans guessing. If they’re happy to resurrect characters who definitely shouldn’t be walking around, logic’s clearly being left at the tomb entrance.
