With the review embargo up this morning, Rotten Tomatoes has logged the first Tomatometer for Ted Lasso season four.

Well, here we are again. Ted Lasso is officially back after over three years off the pitch, and I can almost hear the collective sigh of relief from fans who’ve been waiting to see if a fourth series was ever going to happen. Genuinely, though — if you’d told me back in 2023 that we’d get another round, I’d have said you were dreaming. But lo and behold, Apple dropped the bombshell in March 2025: Ted Lasso Season 4 was a go.

Today, 5 August 2026, marks the official UK arrival of episode one, 'Home', on Apple TV. We’re talking two years on from Ted’s emotional goodbye to Richmond and Blighty, and almost no time at all before Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham, still effortlessly one of the best things about this show) is right back in Ted’s life with another massive offer: manage A.F.C. Richmond again. Never a dull day for Lasso, is there?

Ted Lasso Season 4 landed with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score for its premiere episode, 'Home', as of launch day.

The early verdicts

If you wanted to know how it’s going down with the critics, well, you might be in for a bit of whiplash — because the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. At the time of writing, Rotten Tomatoes has handed 'Home' a perfect debut, based on its opening batch of critics’ reviews. Hard to argue with that, even if not every outlet is quite sure the return was needed in the first place.

  • UPI gives a nod to the original series wrapping things up perfectly in three seasons, but reckons this new run manages to 'begin a new one while honoring the story they completed.'
  • Womentainment says the spotlight has shifted even more onto the rest of the characters — so if you’re a fan of the supporting cast, this should be your thing.
  • ComicBookClub sounds like they’ll be rewatching on repeat, with their reviewer writing that every episode delivers the classic Lasso blend: 'laugh out loud multiple times and then suddenly tear up in the closing moments.' Very on brand.
  • AwardsBuzz is mostly impressed but can’t help noting the show might not be a 'home run' like it once was — but adds, having Ted around is never a bad thing.

So the consensus, for now anyway, is that it’s good to have Ted back. There is the odd grumble over whether the series genuinely needed a fourth go, but honestly, given the reception, most folk seem happy to have another bite of the biscuit tin. Worth pointing out: this is just the first of ten new episodes, dropping weekly over the next two and a bit months. If the next lot live up to the opener, Apple’s got another winner on its hands.
