So much for staying under wraps: the upcoming action thriller just surfaced with a slick new look and fresh intel, teasing covert ops, high-octane chases, and a mission that won’t stay in the shadows.

Right, so Taylor Sheridan has well and truly made himself a fixture on telly, running the Yellowstone empire and spinning up half of Paramount's drama slate with Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown. But next year, he's returning to cinema with a new action thriller called 'F.A.S.T.' (and yes, it really is spelled out – it's not another Fast & Furious job). He's even bringing a Yellowstone regular along for the ride.

Back to the Big Screen

Sheridan’s flirted with action before – he wrote Sicario, he turned out Without Remorse, and he’s ticked the spy box with Special Ops: Lioness on streaming. But for a full-blown, straight-up action film, you have to go back about six years. Now, he’s not actually directing this one, but he's heavily involved as producer. The director’s chair goes to Ben Richardson (who you’ll know from Beasts of the Southern Wild).

Ten Years in the Making and Keeping it Secret

Here's the odd bit: Sheridan apparently wrote the original script for F.A.S.T. a solid decade ago. The project’s basically been simmering away like one of those pots in a cowboy stew, finally bubbling up into production this year – and they’ve been keeping things as hush-hush as possible. Filming’s happening out in Marbella, Spain, which is a roundabout way to end up in a thriller set against American drug crime. Why Marbella? Well, executive producer Peter Welter put it bluntly:

'We needed a mansion to serve as the residence of some drug traffickers and we found it in Malaga, between Marbella and Estepona. It was a shoot in a private residential development, which allowed us to camouflage the filming very well.'

Camouflage is putting it mildly; by all accounts, the set’s been sealed up tighter than a Vegas vault.

What's the Premise?

Lead role goes to Brandon Sklenar – best known from 1923 and popping up on fan shortlists for the new Batman – as a former special forces chap. Back in the States and at a bit of a dead end, he gets roped in by the DEA to head up a shadowy strike team, their job being to bring down drug dealers in his hometown. There’s a twist, naturally – the local criminals are under the CIA’s protection, so don’t be expecting easy shootouts and clean paperwork.

  • Brandon Sklenar (the ex-soldier at the centre)
  • Sam Claflin (Peaky Blinders, The Hunger Games)
  • LaKeith Stanfield (Play Dirty)
  • Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight)
  • Juliana Canfield (Succession)
  • Jason Clarke (A House of Dynamite, Oppenheimer)

Jason Clarke recently told MovieWeb they've been filming 'a bunch of crazy stuff,' which isn’t exactly enlightening, but does at least promise a fair bit of chaos.

Release Date and What’s Next

Warner Bros. Pictures has the UK release locked in for 23 April 2027. And neither Sheridan nor Sklenar are slowing down. Sheridan’s writing the screen version of Call of Duty next (no pressure, mate), and Sklenar is leading The Rescue, which has been described as a ‘modern day western in which a rodeo cowboy’s skills are put to the test outside the arena.’
