Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour are reuniting at Netflix for a new spy drama, trading the Upside Down for undercover ops. The series is in development now, putting the Stranger Things duo back on the same mission—more intel soon.

Might as well get excited: Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour, everyone’s favourite unlikely small-town duo from Stranger Things, are teaming up again—but this time, it’s all trench coats and tradecraft. Netflix is cooking up a brand-new spy series with the two front and centre, and while they haven’t bothered giving it a name just yet, there’s already plenty to unpack.

Spy Drama, But Make It Familial (and Awkward)

This isn’t some cold, faceless espionage affair. The gist: David Harbour’s playing Matt Wolfe, a former FBI agent who’s lost a fair bit of dignity and now toils away as a security expert. His daughter, played by Brown, is an eager new FBI agent in her own right, presumably with a less chequered past—and, like most families on TV, there’s no shortage of unresolved issues between them.

The plot kicks off when Brown’s Rebecca goes missing on the job. Harbour’s character is yanked out of the boring life he’s built and tossed back into the high-stakes world he’d rather leave to other people—except now everything’s changed and he’s properly out of his depth.

Pedigree Behind the Scenes

This isn’t Netflix scraping together a cast and hoping for the best. Jack Thorne, who picked up an Emmy for his work on Adolescence, is writing and creating the show. He’s not just writing, though—he’s also executive producing, and so are Brown and Harbour themselves. So yes, the people actually in front of the camera have quite a say in what’s happening behind it.

A24, never one to shy away from a genre shake-up, is attached as production partner, which probably means you can expect something a little more stylish and sharp than your standard ‘missing agent’ formula.

Meet the Main Players

  • David Harbour: Matt Wolfe, ‘disgraced’ ex-FBI, now security consultant and out-of-practice dad.
  • Millie Bobby Brown: Rebecca Wolfe, ambitious FBI agent and complicated daughter.
  • Jack Thorne: Creator, writer, executive producer—came up with the whole thing.
  • Executive Producers: Along with Thorne, Harbour, and Brown, you’ve got Jake Bongiovi, Robert Brown, Joe Hipps, Patrick McDonald, and KC Wenson on board (yes, Jake Bongiovi is the same one).

Why Netflix Thinks You’ll Care

Netflix’s Jinny Howe (she’s the big boss for scripted shows across the US and Canada) wants us to know she’s absolutely chuffed:

'Jack Thorne’s knack for digging up the human story inside a thriller is unmatched, and watching Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour reunite—this time as estranged father and daughter in the thick of a meltdown—is definitely something viewers are going to enjoy. A24 is the ideal partner for this one.'

You can see why Netflix is pleased. Their release calendar’s looking a bit more interesting lately: other series coming down the line include the second season of BEEF, plus new stuff like Man on Fire, Nemesis, East of Eden, and The Altruists. Essentially, they’re making a play for both award-fodder and crowd-pleasing, binge-friendly drama.

What’s Everyone Else Up To?

Brown’s sticking with Netflix a bit longer—she’s due back as the Victorian mischief-maker in Enola Holmes 3, with Henry Cavill returning as the fanciest Sherlock around. Harbour, meanwhile, just did a turn in HBO Max’s wonderfully odd dark comedy DTF St. Louis and is soon to pop up again as Red Guardian in Avengers: Doomsday for Marvel. So neither of them are exactly short on work—guess Netflix’s chequebook still has some muscle.

No Air Date...Yet

One last technical point: there’s no word on when this series will show up, or even when they’ll start shooting. The official title’s a mystery too. But if you’re a fan of family feuds with extra car chases, you’ll want to keep this one on the radar.
