Season 7 of David Letterman’s Netflix show adds Matt Damon, Julia Roberts and more

If you still fancy watching David Letterman have a proper chinwag with just about anyone famous, you’re in luck. His Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction is back for its seventh season, and this time he seems to have raided the A-list Christmas cracker. I’d argue it’s not exactly groundbreaking television, but if you’re partial to Letterman’s blend of hairy-faced charm and getting big names to let their guard down slightly, you know what you’re getting.

Stellar guest lineup

For season 7, Letterman’s couch will see a parade of Hollywood royalty and one or two oddballs for good measure. This year’s headliners, ready for their soft interrogation, include:

• Matt Damon – fresh from huge box office success as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s would-be epic “The Odyssey”.
• Julia Roberts – her last outing was the 2025 crime drama “After the Hunt”.
• Jimmy Kimmel – because you can’t have Letterman without another famous talk show host to compare notes on sitting behind a desk.
• Alex Honnold – yes, the same daredevil who climbed that building for 'Skyscraper Live', making the rest of us look bad in the process.

If you’re keeping tally, the show has already featured plenty of not-your-average guests: WNBA standout Caitlin Clark, Adam Sandler, Michael B. Jordan, Jason Bateman, and even MrBeast (because apparently YouTubers count as ‘extraordinary people’ too these days).

A decade and counting

Quick reminder, this whole thing started way back in 2018—Letterman returning from the wilderness after his 33-year reign in the late-night game. The official blurb for the show makes it clear: the appeal’s all about ‘combining humour, curiosity and in-depth conversations with extraordinary people’. Not exactly false advertising so far, if you care about celebrity anecdotes and Letterman’s indefatigable beard.

It’s not just riding on nostalgia either. The sixth series picked up the show’s eighth Emmy nomination (that’s Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special, by the way), and it actually bagged the trophy in 2024. So Netflix has every reason to keep it rolling.

Behind the scenes

Production-wise, Tommy Alter, John Nemeth, Hunter Speese, and Adam Donnelly keep the wheels turning as producers, with executive duties handled by Tom Keaney, Mary Barclay, Justin Wilkes, Michael Steed, Isabel Richardson, and Yolanda T. Cochran. Bit of a crowd there, to be honest, but that’s how these things go these days.
