Sam Raimi's Send Help Locks Streaming Premiere Date
Sam Raimi cranks up the dread with Send Help, the Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien horror-thriller now locked for a streaming debut on Hulu and Disney+.
There’s been a pretty noticeable gap in the streaming horror lineup lately, and yes, I’ve heard folks escalating to SOS status over not being able to watch Sam Raimi’s latest, Send Help, at home without buying or renting. If you’re in that camp—or just tired of hearing people complain—it’s time to relax: a streaming release date is finally locked in for the survival thriller that everyone was talking about earlier this year.
Raimi’s Big Box Office Return
Send Help isn’t just any stranded-on-an-island movie. First off, it brings together Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien as coworkers who end up marooned in the middle of nowhere, fighting to survive against… well, I won’t spoil it if you somehow dodged every trailer and meme. The film dropped in theaters back in January and, no surprise, shot straight to the top spot: $28.1 million worldwide in its opening weekend. If you’re into context (and I am), that number even beat out Raimi’s previous horror flick, Drag Me to Hell, which opened with $15.8 million. Maybe audiences are more into tropical terror than demonic curses these days.
The Watching-at-Home Maze
After its box office run, the movie popped up on digital platforms in March—meaning you could rent or buy it if you missed it in theaters. Fine, but a lot of people (myself included) were just holding out for a subscription streaming option. For whatever reason, studios love to keep us waiting and guessing on that front.
That’s finally changing: Send Help will be “crash-landing” (their words, not mine) on streaming services. Newcomers can see what all the fuss is about, and super-fans can rewatch or dissect every single beach twist. The exact service and date are still incoming, but this isn’t vaporware—it’s definitely happening.
Who’s Actually in This Thing?
- Rachel McAdams (pretty much crushes it in anything, but here she’s all grit and panic)
- Dylan O'Brien (surprisingly intense, and apparently hates sand as much as the rest of us)
The movie’s mix of big names and “how did they end up here?” energy seems to have worked. Now that you’ll finally be able to stream it as part of your usual subscription, I have a feeling Send Help is about to get a whole second life (and maybe more ‘are they getting off that island?’ debates on Twitter).
And yes, if you care: this story is still developing, so brace for possible updates. Until then, just be glad you don’t need to DIY a raft just to catch a stranded horror fix in your own living room.
