Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are back together on a new project — though it’s not the Jay & Silent Bob comeback you’ve been waiting for.

Now, when you hear that Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are teaming up again, you probably picture trench coats, questionable facial hair, and a bit of matey banter outside a convenience store. But this reunion is not the Jay & Silent Bob comeback most fans had in mind.

Big City Greens returns for its fifth season on 21 August 2026.

This time, the dynamic duo have set aside their View Askewniverse alter-egos and are headed to the world of animated mischief with Big City Greens season 5. Instead of pot-crazed slackers, Smith and Mewes are lending their voices to a pair of underfed coyotes. Yes, really. Their characters, Dave and Ricky, spend their days scheming against farm animals — it’s all a bit less adult than their usual material, so don’t expect any stoner monologues or fourth-wall nods.

Big Voices for Season 5

The upcoming series is going heavy on celebrity cameos, with a genuinely oddball guest list:

  • Megan Stalter shows up as Wendy Woolery, who’s dangerously into knitwear.
  • Chad Michael Murray voices an actually attractive potato called Hot Potato.
  • Dylan Sprouse takes the role of Tyler, a bloke set up on a date with Gloria — Anna Akana’s character.
  • Luke Combs plays Rusty Twang, an actual country music star, within the show and in real life.
  • And the real prize: Stephen King, typecast as himself, popping up in animated form. No word if he gets eaten by a cartoon beastie.

The Basic Lay of the Land

If you’ve missed the previous chaos, Big City Greens follows Cricket Green, a ten-year-old whose family moves from the sticks to the city. Cue shenanigans, livestock, and the odd musical number. The showrunners, Shane and Chris Houghton, are still at the helm, and their main voice cast remains — including Chris Houghton himself as little Cricket.
