VisionQuest episode 2 hides an Avengers: Doomsday Easter egg in Ultron’s room
VisionQuest hides a clever nod to Avengers: Doomsday in plain sight that fans have spotted — and you’ll kick yourself for missing it.
Marvel fans are always digging for hidden clues, and they’ve come up with another one that’s actually dead clever. In the new Disney+ series VisionQuest—yes, that’s the long-awaited WandaVision follow-up—a sharp-eyed viewer has spotted an Avengers: Doomsday Easter egg basically staring us in the face.
‘Countdown to Doom’ pops up on a DVD case in Ultron’s room in VisionQuest episode 2.
You can’t miss it if you know where to look, apparently. Now, whether this is Marvel teasing Doctor Doom’s arrival (at last, after all the hype), or just Ultron showing off his dark sense of humour, is still anyone’s guess. Either way, it's right there: "Countdown to Doom" slapped onto a DVD in a robo-villain’s lair. Classic Marvel, hiding spoilers in the set dressing like prizes in a Christmas cracker.
What’s It Actually Hinting At?
Some fans reckon this is a nod to Doctor Doom turning up in Avengers: Doomsday—since VisionQuest lands only a couple of months before the big team-up film drops. Others say it could just mean Ultron’s predicting another apocalypse (he does love his black comedy, that bot). Marvel, of course, haven’t confirmed if anyone from VisionQuest is swinging by in the film.
On the story side, VisionQuest is wrapping up everything that kicked off in WandaVision (with a bit of help from Agatha All Along along the way). Main highlights: you get adult Tommy Maximoff, still super quick on his feet, and White Vision (Paul Bettany) trying to work out who—or what—he even is post-resurrection. As for the rest of the Maximoff family reuniting? You’ll be waiting right alongside everyone else, for now.
VisionQuest launched as the final MCU series to drop before Avengers: Doomsday—no Marvel series or film is slotted in between.
Will Vision Be Back In The Films?
Short answer: they’re keeping that card close. Vision's last big screen appearance was all the way back in Avengers: Infinity War (2018), where he ended up as another casualty of Thanos. He stayed properly dead until his android body got the S.W.O.R.D. treatment in WandaVision, and this new series picks up from there, following White Vision handling a proper identity crisis. No new MCU films with Vision are confirmed, and as for Tommy and Billy Maximoff, it's anyone's guess if or when they'll turn up again. There’s always Avengers: Secret Wars to hope for, since that’s rumoured to feature extra faces not in Doomsday, but as always with Marvel, nobody’s giving up names or fates until the credits roll.
- VisionQuest continues the story of White Vision after WandaVision and ties up arcs from Agatha All Along.
- Avengers: Doomsday is the next major MCU film, set to hit cinemas just after VisionQuest's run finishes.
- That DVD ‘Countdown to Doom’ nod is the closest thing yet to linking Doctor Doom to the future of the MCU on screen.
VisionQuest is streaming now on Disney+.
