Sequel chatter is heating up for Michael 2, with La Toya Jackson and producer Graham King signaling there’s more story to tell and Jaafar Jackson poised to return in the lead — though nothing’s official yet.

So, the Michael Jackson biopic hasn’t even hit theaters yet and talk about a sequel is already bubbling up. I get it—Hollywood loves a franchise, and when you’ve got material as over-the-top dramatic as the King of Pop’s life, studios always hope lightning strikes twice.

The (Possible) Sequel Shuffle

Here’s where things stand on Michael 2: there’s interest, talk, and maybe a little plotting, but nobody has signed anything yet. It’s still in the "let’s see if the first movie works" phase. So don’t hold your breath—but don’t rule it out either.

  • Graham King (producer) says he’s 'definitely been thinking about some things' for a sequel. Not exactly a contract, but clearly his brain is spinning up possibilities.
  • Jaafar Jackson, who’s playing Michael, sounds ready to moonwalk back into the role at a moment’s notice. When asked if he’d return for a sequel, he gave an enthusiastic 'I absolutely do.'
  • La Toya Jackson (Michael’s sister and, yes, she’s involved) is less definitive. She told Variety: 'I am not sure if there’s gonna be a sequel. That’s up to the producers. I hear there might be but we don’t know. So, no I haven’t been contacted yet.' In other words: she’s waiting by the phone like the rest of us.

The Janet Piece (or Lack Thereof)

One oddity here: Janet Jackson won’t be showing up in Michael. La Toya said Janet was asked, but she opted out. So don’t expect much (if any) Janet in the first go-around—and who knows if a sequel would even change that.

What We Know About the First Movie

The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua (he of Training Day and various action spectacles), is set to chart Michael’s journey from kid performer to, well, Michael Jackson. For casting: Jaafar Jackson (yes, the real-life nephew) is in the lead. Colman Domingo is playing Joe Jackson (Michael’s father, famously complicated), and Nia Long is tackling Katherine Jackson.

The movie’s currently slated for release on April 24, 2026. Yes, you read that right: it’s nearly two years away. So any sequel talk is, frankly, extremely early days.

Bottom Line

No green light yet for Michael 2. But between a producer who’s daydreaming, a star who’s already said yes, and a family that seems ready to weigh in, odds are decent that the conversation will keep going—especially if the first movie doesn’t flop. Stay tuned; there’s plenty more glitter and glove where this came from.
