Netflix is about to lose Bombshell; catch Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie’s Oscar-nominated turns, alongside Nicole Kidman, while there’s still time.

If you were planning to catch Bombshell on Netflix, you might want to clear an evening sharpish. The streaming window on this particular drama is closing fast, and after that, you will have to hunt it down the old-fashioned way. That’s a bit of a pain, really, given the all-star cast and the headline-making subject matter.

Bombshell disappears from Netflix on 10 September 2026.

The film first hit cinemas back in December 2019, which, to be honest, now feels like another lifetime. Bombshell covers the high-profile sexual harassment scandal at Fox News, focusing on the women who spoke out against chairman Roger Ailes. The story is set smack in the middle of the 2016 US election chaos, piling extra pressure onto the newsroom and the trio at the heart of the film — Megyn Kelly, Gretchen Carlson, and a young producer called Kayla Pospisil. It is all based on true events, though with a bit of dramatic license here and there.

Oscar Nods and Makeup Wins

They really did not go half-measured with the casting either. Charlize Theron is almost unrecognisable as Megyn Kelly. Nicole Kidman tackles Gretchen Carlson, and Margot Robbie (in one of those slightly fictionalised, composite roles) plays Kayla. Each gives it everything, and both Theron and Robbie wound up with Oscar nominations for their trouble — Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. No wins for the acting, but the film did snatch an Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, which makes total sense: the prosthetics alone did half the heavy lifting.

Plot, Cast and Reception

Directed by Jay Roach, with Charles Randolph (the bloke behind The Big Short script) on writing duties, the film wastes little time getting to the ugly heart of things. It follows Gretchen taking legal action, Megyn’s excruciating balancing act, and Kayla’s fresh-eyed perspective as she realises what she’s walked into. Supporting turns come from John Lithgow (suitably repellent as Ailes himself), Kate McKinnon as a fictional Fox producer, and Connie Britton as Ailes' wife. Not exactly light viewing, but it’s gripping in that “can’t quite look away” fashion.

As for reviews, Bombshell landed with a smidge of critical scepticism — about 67 percent on Rotten Tomatoes if you’re counting — but audiences seem to rate it higher, with an 84 percent audience score. Awards stuff aside, it’s clear the film struck more of a chord outside the critic circles.

  • Bombshell: Available to stream on Netflix until 10 September 2026
  • Stars Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie
  • Directed by Jay Roach, script by Charles Randolph
  • Based on the true story of the Fox News scandal
  • Won the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, two acting nominations
  • 67% critics, 84% audience on Rotten Tomatoes

So, if you’ve put off watching Bombshell, you’ve got a limited window before Netflix gives it the boot and you’re left chasing physical media or questionable digital rentals. Typical, isn’t it?
