Krysten Ritter makes a killer comeback in Dexter: Resurrection season 2
Cameras are rolling on Dexter: Resurrection season 2, and Krysten Ritter is back as a guest star, slipping into the killer world just as production heats up.
Well, here we go again—just when you think the Dexter universe can't squeeze out another twist, they wheel out an unexpected return and half the cast of British TV. If you caught the first season of Dexter: Resurrection, you probably remember Krysten Ritter's character, Mia—otherwise known as Lady Vengeance. She was a serial killer with a sommelier day job, which is probably the most niche moonlighting gig I've ever heard of, even by Dexter standards. Now, technically Mia didn’t survive the season (not a spoiler, it’s been ages), but she’s heading back in some fashion for series two. This isn’t some wild rumour—Deadline have confirmed she’s on board as a guest star.
Where Dexter Is At These Days
A quick refresher for anyone who wandered off: the original Dexter show ran on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, lasting an impressive 96 episodes. It followed Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a blood spatter analyst with a slightly awkward side hustle as a serial killer of other serial killers. Clyde Phillips was the original brains behind the show, running things for the first four seasons—and he’s now properly back in charge of this franchise, after briefly exiting and then steering the 2021 revival Dexter: New Blood (which for a while looked like the grand send-off, but apparently not).
Showtime decided they wanted more Dexter (of course they did), so Phillips is currently running this extended Dexter-verse. First, there was the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, which did one series before getting cancelled in what I can only assume was a sudden boardroom change of heart. So now it’s all about Dexter: Resurrection, which launched last July and continues the action straight on from the bloody mess in New York.
Season 2: Who’s Back, Who’s New, and How’s It Shaping Up?
Filming for season two kicked off in April 2026, and it’s once more set in New York. Most of your main faces are returning, with a few notable new names thrown in:
- Back for more blood: Michael C. Hall (Dexter himself, naturally), Jack Alcott (Dexter’s son Harrison), James Remar (Harry Morgan), Desmond Harrington (Joey Quinn, who’s now a full series regular after just two episodes last season), Uma Thurman (as Charlotte 'Charley' Brown, ex–Special Ops and former security chief for a billionaire with questionable hobbies), and of course, Krysten Ritter in her surprise guest star slot.
- Fresh meat: Dan Stevens (The Guest), playing Owen Stark—the so-called Five Borough Killer (think Zodiac dialled up to 11, with extra taunting police phone calls). Brian Cox (Manhunter) is joining as the New York Ripper, a retired-but-still-smug serial killer who isn’t above keeping his own legend alive by tormenting victims’ families. Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo) has come aboard as Captain Mixon, the no-nonsense head of homicide. Nona Parker Johnson (Mayor of Kingstown) will play Fiona Mixon, his daughter, not to mention a police “nepo baby” who’s also Harrison’s new love interest. And yes, Kane Hodder—who you know as Jason bloody Voorhees—rounds out the fresh squad.
The State of the Writers and Production
The writing team started in October 2025, with Clyde Phillips announcing on 'The Dark Passengers: A Dexter Podcast' that it would take around five months to get all the scripts nailed down. As of now, filming is well underway. It’s the same setup behind the scenes: Showtime Studios joined by Counterpart Studios producing, Marcos Siega steering as producing director, and Paramount Global handling distribution. Executive producers include Phillips himself, Hall, Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns.
Odd Moves and Unfinished Threads
Looking at Uma Thurman’s character arc—a real oddity even for this show—she exited New York for greener pastures in Amherst, Pennsylvania with her mum at the end of season one. She still seems to be in Dexter’s orbit, though, so expect some wandering plot threads there.
The show’s clearly going all in on stacking up serial killers for Dexter to butt heads with: the New York Ripper and Five Borough Killer both seem designed to press his buttons and put the whole city on edge. There’s almost an American Horror Story approach to the rotating “big bads” this time.
The Weird Bit
Here’s the twist that makes TV lifers shake their heads: Krysten Ritter’s Mia was properly dead, but she’s back as a guest. Odds are we’ll see her in flashbacks, hallucinations, or those voice-in-the-head Dexter scenes—fans of the franchise know that trick gets used a lot whenever someone needs a stern talking to from beyond the grave.
