Leto has issued a flat denial, telling the press: "I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false."

Some of the accusers had friends and family who backed up their stories, recalling how they'd been told about these encounters at the time. The production team also reviewed supporting material—old photographs and messages connected to the alleged incidents. All the way back in 2005, the New York Post ran a story suggesting Leto was contacting underage girls, but that never really escaped the gossip pages and evaporated just as quickly. Fast-forward to June 2025, and suddenly these old allegations got dragged back into the light. Air Mail published an investigation featuring the accounts of nine women, some also underage at the time, chronicling various allegations of sexual misconduct. Around the same period, DJ Allie Teilz went on the record about an incident she says took place when she was 17, which Leto also denies.
