Pressed in a new interview about accusations of sexual misconduct and assault by four women, Jared Leto didn’t duck it.

Well, Jared Leto's career has never exactly been straightforward, but the past year has tipped it into properly contentious territory. Until recently, he was still headlining stuff like Disney's upcoming Tron: Ares, showing up at every fancy Met Gala, and apparently cemented as a favourite in the fashion circuit for every luxury label going. But over the last twelve months or so, whispers about his behaviour toward young women have started to hit a much more public, uncomfortable pitch—and now, with the BBC getting stuck in, things have moved well beyond the usual tabloid churn.

BBC puts allegations at centre stage

This week saw the release of a new documentary, Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret, airing on the BBC. It's not for the faint-hearted. The hour-long special details accusations from four different women, all saying Leto either sexually assaulted or acted inappropriately towards them between 2002 and 2016. The core detail: every woman was a teenager at the time. In a couple of the most serious cases, the women say they were just 17 when it happened—one specifically linked to California, which would legally be classed as statutory rape if proven in court.

Leto has issued a flat denial, telling the press: "I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false."

The BBC documentary didn't just take the women's word for it. Some of the accusers had friends and family who backed up their stories, recalling how they'd been told about these encounters at the time. The production team also reviewed supporting material—old photographs and messages connected to the alleged incidents. So, we're not talking about anonymous Reddit rumours here; there are names, faces, a paper trail, and people willing to stand by their accounts.

History of whispers, now in the spotlight

For those keeping track, these questions around Leto's behaviour aren't brand new. All the way back in 2005, the New York Post ran a story suggesting Leto was contacting underage girls, but that never really escaped the gossip pages and evaporated just as quickly. Fast-forward to June 2025, and suddenly these old allegations got dragged back into the light. Air Mail published an investigation featuring the accounts of nine women, some also underage at the time, chronicling various allegations of sexual misconduct. Around the same period, DJ Allie Teilz went on the record about an incident she says took place when she was 17, which Leto also denies.

Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret dropped on 5 June 2026, aggressively reviving allegations that have trailed him for over 20 years.

Despite all these details coming out—first in the press, then on broadcast telly—Leto hasn't faced any known criminal charges or lawsuits so far. He's still being linked with big studio franchises, having only recently handed in work on Masters of the Universe. How long the industry will keep overlooking it, especially now these stories have mainstream exposure and fresh documentary evidence, is anyone's guess. But the idea that all of this is just internet hearsay is getting harder to defend by the day.
