Is This How The Boys Ends? Soldier Boy Could Strip Homelander Of His Powers
Prime Video’s live-action The Boys has already upended the comics—now the only question is how far it will go next.
Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen The Boys Season 5, Episode 6 – "Though the Heavens Fall." Let’s be real, at this point in the season, I was expecting the show to be barreling toward its own high-octane finale. Instead, it spends a surprisingly large amount of time priming us for a whole other spinoff: Vought Rising. You can’t turn around without tripping over a setup for the prequel, and Episode 6 is peak prequel tease—with a new (but old) Supe getting an actual introduction that’s both meaningful and clever for once.
Meet Bombsight: The Prequel's Key Player, Now in The Boys
Here’s the deal: Mason Dye shows up as Bombsight, a superpowered character who’s been built up for Vought Rising, which apparently takes place in the 1950s. The prequel promises more of The Boys’ signature a-bomb blend of superhero skewering and political jabs but set in the early days of Supes. And yes, Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, Aya Cash’s Stormfront, and now Bombsight all figure big in that period piece.
So, yes, there are a lot of blinking arrows pointing at the next chapter, but Bombsight’s appearance in Season 5 actually pulls double duty—a teaser for what’s next but also a pretty crucial bit of storytelling for the main show.
How Bombsight's Cameo Changes the Game
- Soldier Boy’s Rare Power In Action: We all know Soldier Boy is basically a walking tank with serious daddy issues, but his radiation beam (the one that fries V-One from Supes) has barely made a showing in the series. Usually, it goes off when he’s triggered by stress or PTSD, not on command.
- Room for Some Actual Humanity: In "Though the Heavens Fall", Bombsight is basically begging to grow old with someone he loves. So, Soldier Boy, in a very rare act of mercy, deliberately uses his radiation attack to burn the Compound V out of Bombsight. It actually works—Bombsight becomes your average guy, and, in exchange, he hands over the last dose of V-One to Soldier Boy.
- This Sets Up a New Weapon Against Homelander: All season, the show’s been hammering home how dangerous it would be if Homelander ever got his hands on V-One. If he does, everyone’s dead. But seeing Soldier Boy strip Bombsight of his powers (on purpose, for once) opens up a possibility: maybe he can do the same to Homelander if things go sideways.
- The Motive Gets Murky: Soldier Boy and Homelander’s relationship might be leaning toward “weirdly supportive dad,” but Soldier Boy clearly has his own agenda. Knowing he can remove powers may be the only thing that makes handing over V-One tolerable…for now.
Why Power-Removal Could Outdo a Straight-Up Execution
Here’s where it gets interesting. Homelander has racked up a truly abysmal record of atrocities over the last five seasons. Killing him always felt like the neat, classic TV villain resolution—the kind where the audience cheers, the credits roll, and you maybe get a punchy final speech. Problem is, the show’s now basically said outright that with V-One, Homelander would be unstoppable.
But if Soldier Boy can zap his powers away—on purpose—what then? Homelander was born a Supe, experimented on before he ever left the womb. He’s never actually known a “regular” life. Taking away his powers could be a poetic gut-punch: a guy who’s terrified everyone finally gets to know how it feels to be at the mercy of people stronger than he is.
My take? Letting him walk around as vanilla John, totally powerless, would be a way more satisfying conclusion than just splattering him across the set. Plus, it would save Butcher and friends from feeling like they have to unleash that Supe virus—so, you know, humanity doesn’t have to pay for Homelander’s sins (again).
Only two episodes left, so we won’t have to wait long to see if The Boys goes full Shakespeare or just hits the self-destruct button. Either way, for once, the spinoff setup actually made the current story richer—not just an ad for what’s coming three years from now.
