A resurfaced Spider-Man 4 synopsis on Regal Cinemas for Spider-Man: Brand New Day—teasing a post-Doomsday, back-to-college Peter Parker—is scrambling MCU timelines and even tripping up theater listings.

If you, like me, scrolled past a 'Spider-Man 4' synopsis online and did a double take, you’re not alone. Apparently, a bunch of fans—and even some pretty big movie theater chains—got a little turned around about the next Spider-Man movie’s plot and timeline, all thanks to an old bit of Marvel ‘news’ that somehow ended up back in circulation.

So, Why Is Everyone Confused?

This all started with a synopsis on Regal Cinemas' website for 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day.' The logline read:

'After Doomsday, Peter Parker tries to focus on college and leave Spider-Man behind. But when a new threat endangers his friends, he must break his promise and suit up again, teaming with an unexpected ally to protect those he loves.'

If that sounds like Spider-Man hanging up his suit after some event called 'Doomsday'—only to get dragged back in—you’re not wrong. The catch: 'Avengers: Doomsday' hasn't even hit theaters yet, and Marvel hasn't confirmed the details of this whole 'college-life-vs-superhero' plot either.

Here's Where Things Got Weird

Turns out, this synopsis dates all the way back to an old 2024 issue of Production Weekly. Back then, the schedule made a little more sense: 'Avengers: Doomsday' was supposed to debut on May 1, 2026, and 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' was slotted for a couple months later. Spider-Man 4 would literally come after 'Doomsday.' Easy enough.

But then the movie gods did what they always do—Disney pushed 'Avengers: Doomsday' to December 18, 2026. No one updated the synopsis, so this old timeline is still floating around on Regal’s website (and probably confusing the life out of ticket buyers).

Let’s make it crystal clear: Marvel and Sony finally dropped the real synopsis back when the trailer arrived. You’d think this would settle things, but apparently not everyone got the memo.

What the Movie's Really About

Here's the actual, current synopsis for 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', straight from Marvel and Sony:

'Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city—a full-time Spider-Man—but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.'

So no, Peter's not hitting the books or balancing dorm life with suiting up—he's all in on Spider-Man, facing his own mysterious changes, and dealing with a new (unnamed, but apparently major) villain.

The Cast and Crew Rundown

  • Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, obviously.
  • Zendaya returns (presumably as MJ, but with the whole memory wipe, who knows what dynamic we’ll get).
  • Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman join the cast—no word yet on who they’re playing.
  • Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal (yes, that Jon Bernthal), Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo are also along for the ride.
  • Destin Daniel Cretton is directing, and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers wrote the script.

When’s It Coming Out?

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is scheduled to hit theaters July 31, 2026. (Yes, before Avengers: Doomsday, unless Hollywood’s schedule gets shuffled again.)

So, if you see theaters or fans talking about Peter Parker’s new college phase after Doomsday, just remember: that was last year's Marvel plans, and a lot has changed. Bookmark the updated plot and save yourself some headache in the future.
