Fashion’s fiercest sequel is headed to your couch: The Devil Wears Prada 2 has a streaming date on Disney+ and Hulu — here’s when it hits your queue.

Right, time to dig out your questionable fashion choices: The Devil Wears Prada 2 is coming to streaming, and yes, everyone’s back for another round of haute couture melodrama and passive-aggressive glances over low-fat lattes.

Release Dates and Where You Can Watch

Just in case you’ve managed to avoid all the breathless marketing, here’s the situation:
  • Streaming on Disney+ and Hulu from 29 July
  • On digital (Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home) from 30 June
  • Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD physical release lands on 28 July
Not sure about the logic of releasing the disc a day before it streams, but that's Hollywood for you.

Box Office and Fashion Flexing

The film made a splash when it hit cinemas this past May, to the tune of over $676 million worldwide. As if that's not enough, with this sequel the overall Devil Wears Prada franchise has now racked up more than a cool $1 billion at the box office. Apparently, we’ll never tire of watching beautiful people feel dead inside at Paris Fashion Week. As you’d expect, the film is rammed with as many designer labels as a Bond Street window—think Dior, Versace, Armani, Givenchy, Cartier, Dolce, Tiffany, Fendi, the works. You’ll also spot a who's-who of fashion and music industry cameos, just in case the plot loses you.

Who's Back for More?

No one’s been recast, so you can relax—Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly is back to verbally eviscerate the help, with Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all returning. David Frankel directs again, Aline Brosh McKenna is on script duty, and if you care about the names behind the scenes: Wendy Finerman produced, while Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt, and Aline Brosh McKenna executive produced.

Critics and Surprises

It’s not just the fans who’ve been won over. Even people who weren’t massively sold on the original have been surprised by how much mileage this sequel gets out of all the luxury handbags and existential misery. Chris Bumbray (who’s apparently now our spirit animal for scepticism) summed up the feeling:
'Overall, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada 2, as I actually wasn't much of a fan of the first film. It delivers fans what they want, but it also has some brains behind it, with knowing nods at how high-end fashion—once attainable—is now little more than a status symbol for the elites. The film still celebrates the escapism and excess of such a life, but also acknowledges how fleeting it all is, even for those who seem to have "made it" in an industry that's on its last legs.'

Bonus Features: What You Get in the Digital and Blu-Ray Bundles

Disney's not plonking this online and then forgetting about it—there’s a heap of extras baked into both the streaming and physical releases. Here’s what you’re getting:
  • Level Up: Updating the Icons: Look back on the first film, discuss its staying power, and see how the characters and their wardrobes have changed (plus, some behind-the-scenes action from the New York shoot).
  • Inside the Fashion Closet: Interviews with cast, filmmakers, and costume designer Molly Rogers, shining a light on how each character’s look was put together—expect Ralph Lauren-level attention to detail.
  • Front-Row Access: Shooting in Italy: Get the lowdown on shooting at Milan Fashion Week, corralling designers into the frame, and staging the film’s own OTT fashion show/concert sequence.
  • 'Runway' Music Video by Lady Gaga and Doechii: Because apparently there is no such thing as too much Gaga in a fashion film.
  • Gag reel: Watch the cast and crew blow takes and try not to laugh, probably while wearing things you can’t afford.
  • Audio commentary by David Frankel, Aline Brosh McKenna, and Molly Rogers: For those who fancy learning how movies about expensive shoes are actually made.
If you want both films together, there’s a 2-Movie Collection bundle, digital and DVD, which pairs the original 2006 film with the new sequel.
