Every Netflix series axed in 2026 so far
Netflix swung the ax in early 2026, cutting competition series, legal dramas, and animated shows as it reshapes its slate—yet one of its biggest hits scored a last hurrah with a final-season renewal. Here’s every show the streamer has dropped so far this year.
Netflix has been doing a fair bit of pruning in 2026, and frankly, it’s not just the obscure stuff quietly disappearing. From big-name dramas to the sort of competition shows hardly anyone admits they watch, the streaming giant isn’t holding back with the axe. There’s even a bit of drama over some of the showrunners they’ve dropped—so, as always, worth unpacking what’s going on.
Cancellations, Renewals, and a Lot Less Padding
This year, Netflix’s content strategy has been shifting. Translation: More shows are getting canned, even a couple with famous creators or plenty of buzz behind them. The streamer’s sticking with a few big hitters, but even they aren’t safe from a tidy ending.
The Boroughs – One Season and Out
This one actually raised a few eyebrows. The Boroughs seemed a shoo-in, at least on paper, with the Duffer Brothers (yes, the Stranger Things duo) at the helm. Despite that pedigree, Netflix pulled the plug after just one season earlier this month. Not exactly what you’d expect after the Duffers’ solid track record, so you can’t blame fans for getting a bit annoyed about it all.
Building the Band – Pulled After One Series
Another quick exit: Building the Band, Netflix’s attempt at a music competition series, barely had time to warm up. This only dropped weeks ago. The show was fronted by Liam Payne—yes, late of One Direction—before his sudden passing. Even so, it didn’t get a second go, so add it to the growing tally of swift cancellations this year.
The Lincoln Lawyer – Final Season Incoming
Now for one that at least gets a proper send-off: The Lincoln Lawyer is coming back for a last lap before calling it a day. Up to now, it’s done well for Netflix—four series, 171 million views since 2023, and a solid grip on the streamer’s Top 10 lists for a total of 29 weeks. Interest has held up too; season four debuted to nine million viewers its first weekend, actually up from the previous run.
The showrunners, Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez, put out a statement that was about as gracious as you’d hope for. Here's the gist:
'All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us… the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves.'
Could be worse, I suppose—at least they’re promising an ending the fans might actually be happy with.
The 2026 Netflix Axe List
If you’re actually counting, Netflix has canned a total of 14 series across multiple genres just this year. Some were under-the-radar, some got a bit more noise, and there’s a mix of live-action, animation, and reality in the pile. For clarity, here’s the lot as of now:
- The Boroughs
- Building the Band
- The Abandons
- Terminator Zero
- The Vince Staples Show
- Pop The Balloon LIVE
- Selling the City
- With Love, Meghan
- Alice In Borderland
- Class
- Miss Governor
- Strip Law
- What’s in the Box?
- F1: The Academy
That’s quite a swathe to go in half a year, and it doesn’t seem like Netflix is finished adjusting its strategy just yet. The only real pattern is, if it’s not giving them the numbers or prestige they’re after, don’t get too attached.
