Chris Evans boards My Darling California, the star-studded crime thriller from the director of Magazine Dreams.

If you’re craving a crime thriller loaded with A-list talent, pay attention to what Elijah Bynum is cooking up next. This is the guy who pulled off that searing character study in 'Magazine Dreams' (I’ll be honest, intense stuff, maybe a little too much for some, but you can’t deny the guy’s got vision). Well, now he’s jumping genres with 'My Darling California,' and the casting decisions have basically turned this thing into a flex.

Here’s the latest: Chris Evans is hopping aboard. That’s right, Captain America himself is suiting up for a gritty LA story—so if you thought the lineup was already loaded, you’re not wrong.

Who’s In?

The folks they've rounded up are basically a murderers’ row of movie/TV talent:

  • Jessica Chastain (yeah, from 'Zero Dark Thirty')
  • Josh Brolin ('Dune', and yes, Thanos, but also recently in 'Weapons')
  • Chris Pine (if you watched 'Hell or High Water' or any of those 'Wonder Woman' movies, you know him)
  • Don Cheadle (you've seen those 'Ocean’s' movies, right?)
  • Mikey Madison (from 'Scream', plus 'Anora')
  • Charles Melton (the guy from 'Riverdale', and recently in 'May December'—he's reportedly leading this thing)
  • And as of now, Chris Evans

What’s The Story?

The plot isn’t just your typical crime stuff. The film spins around a single crime that somehow tangles together a whole bunch of lives: a TV host, his ambitious wife, a country music star, a couple of small-time crooks, and an ex-con. And, of course, everybody’s chasing some version of the American dream. Ambitious, right? It’s very LA—think glitz, desperation, and that weird hope-you’ll-make-it quality.

Making it Happen

Behind the scenes, Anton (they backed 'Greenland') and 2AM ('Materialists') are handling production. Here’s how things break down:

David Hinojosa at 2AM is producing. Executive producing is Zach Nutman (also 2AM). Some serious behind-the-camera talent too—Chayse Irvin (who shot 'BlacKkKlansman') is Director of Photography, Leslie Jones is on editing duties, Judy Becker is doing production design, and Erin Benach is handling costumes.

Why Should You Care?

It’s not every day you see this many heavy-hitters in one film, and Bynum—even with the unfortunate spillover from the Majors situation on 'Magazine Dreams'—already turned heads with that work. Producers are clearly pumped; one called Bynum 'one of the most exciting new filmmaking voices today,' and another said, 'He’s got a rare ability to combine emotional depth with cinematic scale.' That’s not producer-speak you throw out for just any script.

If you like your crime sagas messy, intense, and packed with actors you actually recognize, this one’s shooting up the must-watch list.
