Chicago Fire nabs a Shadowhunters star for season 15 — consider us intrigued
Chicago Fire Season 15 has snapped up a Shadowhunters veteran as its newest cast member — place your bets on who.
If you thought Chicago Fire would slow down after that massive Season 14 cliffhanger, think again. There are fresh faces, confirmed exits, and more set leaks than a bucket brigade with a hole in it. We now know who’s stepping up for the next round – and perhaps who isn’t coming back at all. Let’s break down what’s going on behind the scenes before Season 15 finally lands on 7 October. Yes, that’s still a painful wait.
Season 15 of Chicago Fire premieres 7 October 2026.
New recruits, changing guard
The word’s out: Matthew Daddario – yes, he of the Shadowhunters crowd – is joining the Firehouse 51 roster. There’s not much official word on who he’s playing, but Deadline’s report says he’ll be suiting up as a firefighter candidate. Expect plenty of scenes with him proving himself on the job (or possibly catching flak for being the new lad on the scene).
This bit of casting news wasn’t dropped by the show, but by another newbie: Da’Vinchi. He posted an Instagram shot of himself, Daddario, and Brandon Larracuente perched on Truck 81, grinning in their gear. It looks like Da’Vinchi’s Marcus Burke will also be tackling the candidate gauntlet, with Larracuente’s Sal Vasquez apparently playing drill sergeant for the next generation of Firehouse 51 hopefuls. If you’re the sort who keeps up with behind-the-scenes tidbits, social media has spilled more than most official press releases lately. Some things never change.
Safe (ish), for now
For fans worried that last season’s explosion cliffhanger meant losing too many familiar faces at once – don’t panic just yet. The steady drip-feed of set photos has confirmed that the likes of Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg), Randall 'Mouch' McHolland (Christian Stolte), Sal Vasquez (Larracuente), Harold Capp (Randy Flagler), and Tony Ferraris (Anthony Ferraris) are all present and accounted for on set. Whether they all make it to the end of the season is anyone’s guess, but at least they survive the storage facility disaster long enough for a few more episodes.
Confirmed departures
Of course, you don’t get a cliffhanger like the one Season 14 served up without a bit of house cleaning. The first name out the door: Andrea Newman, long-time showrunner, announced she was stepping down in April 2026, handing the keys to Victor Teran (who’s moved up from co-executive producer to running the show for the new episodes).
- Dermot Mulroney (Dom Pascal) – officially departing before Season 15
- Joe Miñoso (Joe Cruz) – also confirmed as leaving
Details about exactly how these departures play out remain under tight wraps. But per one report from One Chicago Center, leaked set photos hint that Cruz might wind up badly hurt in the fire, setting up either a dramatic death or a medical discharge. As for Pascal: he avoided immediate peril in last season’s finale, but with his track record of putting himself in harm’s way – like that FBI-disobeying, hard-drive-retrieving escapade in a previous crossover – the odds aren’t in his favour for a quiet farewell.
No confirmed plot blurb has surfaced for Season 15, so whether anyone actually dies or just takes their leave quietly is up in the air. Until that October premiere, speculation is about all we’ve got.
