The next contender hoping to ride that viral wave is Seasons, a film that doesn't come from YouTube stars, but rather starts its weird little journey as a Reddit thread. And this one's got some proper star wattage attached: Lily James, Jack Reynor, and Ron Perlman are all set to lead, so it's definitely not being treated as a B-list oddity.

The Story's Online Origins

So, what actually is Seasons? At its core, it's about a young couple (Reynor and James) who move out to a ranch—standard horror setup—only to find the place is, of course, not at all normal. Instead of bad plumbing, they've inherited a property with ancient spirits in residence. To keep things from going all Poltergeist, they're forced into a set of bizarre rituals. The original story by Matt Query went viral after being posted on Reddit's #nosleep, that bit of the site dedicated to horror fiction and urban legends. The popularity was enough that Matt and his brother Harrison Query knocked it up into a novel. For the film, director Drew Hancock is adapting it into a screenplay himself.

Behind the Scenes and the Cast

Production-wise, Shawn Levy's 21 Laps (think Stranger Things) and the horror hit-makers at Blumhouse/Atomic Monster are jointly producing. Amazon MGM have grabbed the US distribution rights, so no worries about where it lands for American audiences.
