Start your engines: Brad Pitt’s 2025 film F1 is revving toward a sequel after upbeat signals from Eddy Cue and Jerry Bruckheimer — but there’s still no firm green light or timeline.

If you thought Brad Pitt was done racing around in Formula One cars, think again. The rumblings about a sequel to 'F1' – Pitt’s 2025 racing film – just refuse to die down, and the folks behind it aren't exactly shutting things down, either. In fact, the latest noise is more on the hopeful side, though there’s still nothing locked in.

Here’s the lay of the land: Apple still hasn’t given an official green light to another pit stop for Pitt and co, but key names at the top are openly entertaining the idea. We’ve now had recent comments from both Eddy Cue (Apple exec) and veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and neither of them sound ready to park the car.

What's actually happening?

Bruckheimer, speaking at the Cannes Lions event, came right out with it: 'I’m really excited because we’re going to come back and hopefully make another F1.' For producers, that’s about as explicit as it gets before contracts are signed and everyone is herded into meetings.

Eddy Cue wasn’t shy either. He said, 'We’re going to do it again. Hopefully, we’re doing another Formula 1 movie. Everyone wants to see another one. It was Brad Pitt’s biggest movie of all time. It was a great story.' Take note of that 'hopefully'—everyone’s keeping the language nice and vague, but there’s clear intent there.

Who else is in on this?

  • Lewis Hamilton – not just racing consultant but up to his neck in the creative side – said earlier this year that script work has already started, with planning sessions going back to late last year. That’s with Jerry Bruckheimer and director Joseph Kosinski all in the same room plotting directions for where the story could go next.
  • Kerry Condon (you’ll remember her from the original) reckons the script’s in good shape, but flagged the usual headache: everyone's diaries. According to her, 'They all love the script, but I guess it’s going to be when Joe, our director, is available.' In other words, it might be a while before the band’s fully back together.

And Apple?

Despite all the public optimism from cast and crew, and all the plot-hatching behind the scenes, Apple hasn’t made anything official. Until they do, it’s all a case of wait and see.

If you fancy revisiting the original, 'F1' is streaming now on Apple TV.
