Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18, 2026, assembling Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr., among others.

Marvel fans have been collectively losing their minds ever since the super-secret Avengers: Doomsday trailer got its first (and so far, only) airing at CinemaCon. Disney and Marvel rolled out this thing just for theater owners—no, it’s not online—and now everyone wants to know: when are we actually going to see it? Other CinemaCon trailers—think The Mandalorian and Grogu, Insidious: Out of the Further, and even a new Meet the Fockers—were released online soon after their Vegas debut. Avengers: Doomsday, on the other hand, is being held tighter than Thor's hammer.

And after all the wild reports of what was in the footage (like Shang-Chi and Gambit going head-to-head and the first glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom—yep, seriously), fan hype is at fever pitch. There were four super-short teasers that played before Avatar: Fire and Ash last month, but most people haven’t seen anything substantial yet. The big question: when’s the first real trailer dropping, and will Marvel keep teasing us all summer?

Could May Be the Month? Don’t Count On It

The most obvious date for a splashy trailer drop would have been May 1, 2026. That was actually Avengers: Doomsday’s original release date—before it was unceremoniously kicked to December 18 so Disney could slot The Devil Wears Prada 2 (yes, you read that right) as the summer opener instead. Since the first weekend of May is traditionally Marvel’s playground, and often ties into Free Comic Book Day, this seemed like a no-brainer.

But looking closer, that’d be a pretty tone-deaf move. Why? Because early May is already packed with two new Marvel streaming releases:

  • The finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 drops May 5, 2026.
  • Punisher: One Last Kill (a special) premieres May 12 on Disney+.

Dropping the big Avengers: Doomsday trailer right in the middle of all that? Not smart. Marvel will want to let both those shows get their moment before the fandom stampedes toward the new Avengers stuff. That pushes the first trailer debut a bit later—probably to just after Punisher finally streams.

All Signs Point to The Mandalorian and Grogu

So, what’s the next logical window? If you’re a betting person, your safest money's on the week The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters. Disney loves to cross-promote its biggest brands. Past Marvel and Star Wars trailers have often been attached to each other's releases. (If you remember, the The Force Awakens trailer with Han Solo's 'Chewie, we’re home' played ahead of Age of Ultron. And the Infinity War trailer was hooked to The Last Jedi.)

The best theory is that the full Avengers: Doomsday trailer will go public between May 18 and May 21, 2026—right in time for Mando and little green buddy. Maybe it hits the internet a day or two earlier, or maybe Disney keeps it exclusive to theaters at first. Either way, it would let Daredevil and Punisher enjoy their tiny slivers of the spotlight, then shift all the hype back to the Avengers and, conveniently, Disney’s big Star Wars release.

That timing would also give The Mandalorian and Grogu some extra rocket fuel at the box office—which it might need, considering that word is Disney is a little nervous about its numbers.

Comic-Con: The Wild Card

If you’re hoping Marvel’s going to surprise-drop the trailer even later, here’s the (annoying) possibility: wait until San Diego Comic-Con, which kicks off July 22, 2026. Marvel Studios has already confirmed they’re coming back to Comic-Con after bailing in 2025, pretty much guaranteeing that they’ll show off new Doomsday footage. So, maybe The Mandalorian tie-in is just a short teaser, and the panel unleashes the full trailer in Hall H.

Here’s where the math gets nerdy. Looking at past Avengers movies:

  • Infinity War: Trailer dropped online 149 days before the film.
  • Endgame: Trailer dropped 140 days before release.

July 22, 2026, is 149 days before Doomsday’s December 18 release. July 31 (when Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens) is 140 days out. Marvel’s Comic-Con panel happens July 25. So, it’s totally plausible that Marvel holds the big trailer for Comic-Con and then starts running it in theaters with Spider-Man’s release. Historically, though, Marvel keeps Comic-Con trailers exclusive to the fans who line up for the Hall H experience.

So are we getting the first Doomsday trailer in May, with The Mandalorian and Grogu? Is that just a teaser, with the real meat and potatoes saved for late July? And does Disney even care if Spider-Man overlaps with Avengers in the hype cycle, given both are expected to post monster numbers anyway? There’s a lot of moving pieces here—and Disney definitely pays attention to box office chicken moves from other studios (hello, Dune: Part Three).

Final Thoughts (For Now)

At the end of the day, it’s all about timing the hype to deliver maximum impact (and minimum cannibalization across Disney’s empire). But let’s be honest—if you’re waiting to see Robert Downey Jr. in a Doctor Doom cape, every week of delay feels like a year. My money says Memorial Day weekend or early Mando release window, with a second, juicier trailer in the Comic-Con/Spider-Man window for the superfans.

'Only time will tell, but hopefully it is sooner rather than later.'
