Armie Hammer reveals the real reason he missed The Social Reckoning
Armie Hammer is finally talking about skipping The Social Network Reckoning, explaining why the Winklevoss twins won’t be back — and what it’s like watching the sequel move on without him.
If you saw Armie Hammer as the twin rowing machines in 'The Social Network', you might have wondered if he’d be muscling back in for the follow-up, 'The Social Reckoning'. Well, he’s finally weighed in — and the answer is “Nope, and I’m fine with it, actually”.
Hammer Talks Winklevoss Twins, Future Projects, and That Sequel
So, here’s how it all unfolds. Armie Hammer played both Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss — essentially one bloke talking to himself, courtesy of some impressive camera trickery — in David Fincher’s slick 2010 take on the Facebook origin myth. Now, with a fresh chapter on the horizon, naturally people asked if Hammer would be dusting off the Shoreditch boat shoes.
During a chat with ComingSoon that covered quite a lot (including his rebounding career after those messy allegations), Hammer addressed this 'Social Network' spinoff. And he’s not bitter about missing his double act:
"I’m still in communication with some of the people who were involved in the original film, and I knew early on that there was no space for the Winklevoss twins in this movie, which is totally fine. I feel like what we made was a really special thing. It really touched on a zeitgeisty thing in a way that is hard to do for films because from the moment an idea comes up for a film until the moment it comes out, it takes a lot of time. But I think both Sorkin and Fincher nailed it, and I’m really proud of that movie."
In short: no cameo, no bad blood. According to Hammer, the new film just isn’t about the twins. And if you’re wondering, yes — he’s still on decent terms with some of the old guard.
If anything, Hammer seems rather chuffed about seeing new audiences go back to rewatch Fincher’s version thanks to all the attention around the new one. He couldn’t resist one for the Aaron Sorkin fans:
"Maybe more people will watch The Social Network again. If they do, great. If they don’t, great. I’m sure The Social Reckoning is going to be amazing. I can tell you one thing: the writing is going to be incredible."
Who’s Actually in 'The Social Reckoning'?
- Jeremy Strong
- Mikey Madison
- Jeremy Allen White
- Wunmi Mosaku
- Betty Gilpin
- Billy Magnussen
- Bill Burr
None of them rowing a boat in unison, it’s worth noting.
Sorkin’s doing double duty this time, both writing and directing. For those who care about release dates, 'The Social Reckoning' is due in cinemas on 9 October 2026.
If you are, for some reason, still following the Armie Hammer saga, his next screen outing will be in something called 'Citizen Vigilante', helmed by Uwe Boll. Make of that what you will.
