Pluribus stalls as Rhea Seehorn confirms a major season 2 delay
Hold that countdown — the much-anticipated comeback isn’t happening as fast as hoped. Fans angling for a quick return will be waiting a little longer.
If you’ve been paying attention to Apple TV lately, you’ll have noticed it’s quietly become one of the best places for proper, grown-up science fiction—lots of emotional stakes, big ideas, that sort of thing. One of the latest heavy-hitters is Pluribus, Vince Gilligan’s oddball drama about a miserable author, Carol Sturka (played by Rhea Seehorn), wandering about a world where nearly everyone else has been hoovered up into a relentlessly happy hive mind.
The show landed last November and almost immediately had Apple and genre fans buzzing. You had the critics falling over themselves (it’s still sitting on 99% on Rotten Tomatoes), and the IMDb mob tossing it a very solid 7.9 out of 10. Apple actually renewed the thing before anyone had even seen it, which doesn’t happen unless the bosses are absolutely convinced they’ve got something prestige-y on their hands.
'When's it back?' is suddenly a very awkward question
The plan always seemed to be: early renewal, keep the momentum, get the next season out fast. But if you’ve been hoping for a quick turnaround, lower those expectations immediately. Rhea Seehorn herself was asked recently—on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast—when filming for season 2 is supposed to happen, and she didn’t even try to spin it.
"We don't know."
Just that. Definitely not the answer you want to hear if, like the rest of us, you’re hoping for a second helping soon. It doesn’t sound like Apple are taking their foot off the pedal, though, or that season 1’s good reviews have faded from memory. This one’s all about the writing.
Vince Gilligan isn't in a hurry and actually, that's the point
Seehorn explained that the first season was, to put it politely, a bit of a slog to make. Loads of post-production, months of tweaking before it finally popped up on Apple TV+ in November 2025. And unlike some shows where you finish a finale and the cast are straight back at work, here there’s not even a filming start date on the horizon.
The problem? Not budget cuts, not scheduling drama, not even execs dithering in the background. Gilligan and his writers apparently threw out their initial plan for season 2. They toyed with a few concepts, liked bits of this and that, but ultimately decided to scrap it all and start from scratch.
"They started kicking the tires on all of it and wanted to go back to square one."
Seehorn reckons that’s exactly why Gilligan’s shows have that extra polish—and, fair enough, you can feel it watching Breaking Bad and the rest. Still, doesn’t make the wait any easier. He apparently wishes the series was back sooner, but for Gilligan, if it’s not good enough, it’s not happening.
She was pretty blunt about the pressure he’s under too, saying:
"He does feel rushed. This is him working his a** off."
For now, the reality is simple: Pluribus season 2 is nowhere near shooting. Seehorn herself hasn’t been looped in on major details, including what’s next for Carol. That being said, she sounds completely up for returning whenever they’re ready—when asked, she gave a straightforward:
"Yeah."
Also worth remembering: the last season took ages in post-production, so even if they start soon, don’t expect those loose ends to get tied up until well after the cameras have stopped rolling.
