Yellowstone Star Saddles Up for Chris Hemsworth’s Next Thriller
Chris Hemsworth’s next crime thriller just lassoed Yellowstone alum Brian Geraghty, stacking an already loaded cast. Directed by Matt Ross and adapted from a wild 2007 genre mash-up, this one promises offbeat twists and plenty of bite.
If there is a prize for most surreal movie premise of 2026, Chris Hemsworth might just have it in the bag. His next film, 'Kockroach', sounds like the result of a fever dream from a Kafka scholar who had one too many late-night crime thrillers. And now, it is adding a familiar face from the world of Taylor Sheridan westerns.
Brian Geraghty Joins the Fray
The line-up for 'Kockroach' is getting stronger by the day. The latest addition is Brian Geraghty – yes, Zane from '1923' (the 'Yellowstone' spin-off with more Stetsons than sense) – who has quietly built a CV that goes from 'The Sopranos' and 'Law & Order' to films like 'Jarhead' and 'The Hurt Locker'. No word yet on exactly who, or what, Geraghty is playing, and frankly, given the plot, I am half-expecting him to turn up as a sentient stick of furniture.
The Cast: Not Exactly Low-Key
Geraghty is joining a cast that already boasted enough star power to keep the lights on in Soho:
- Chris Hemsworth, fresh from a strenuous workout regime (presumably to prepare for the role of a former insect)
- Taron Egerton, who frankly deserves a massive film that doesn't require him to sing Elton John or survive a king's maniacal plots
- Alec Baldwin, whose CV is now somehow even more varied
- Zazie Beetz and Rachel Sennott, both coming off strong indie and studio projects
A Cockroach in New York (But Filming Down Under)
Now, for those still catching up on the premise: 'Kockroach' is adapted from the 2007 novel by William Lashner (writing as Tyler Knox), which itself takes a rather wry swing at Kafka's classic 'Metamorphosis'. Only, instead of a man turning into an insect, here we've got an actual cockroach waking up one day in 1950s New York as a human. The story follows our ex-insect hero as he bluffs, claws, and scuttles his way through the city's seedy underbelly and so-called high society.
To make things slightly more convoluted, despite all the New York noir trappings, the shoot is happening in Australia – presumably because the insects are bigger and the tax credits even bigger still.
From Channing Tatum to the God of Thunder
There was a point where Channing Tatum was meant to be the star. Studio bosses liked the idea, but the scheduling gods didn’t. Hemsworth then stepped in as the lead, which is definitely a big win for Marvel fans—and probably a relief for anyone wanting to see him do anything other than be Thor for once.
Production: So Far, So Mysterious
Shooting kicked off recently — Hemsworth even posted a cheeky behind-the-scenes snap to X (the app formerly known as Twitter) in April. Everything else is still under wraps: no trailer, no teaser, no formal release date. Maybe they're waiting for the cockroach to finish converting pounds into dollars.
