How many Kitchen Nightmares restaurants are still open? Ramsay's real success rate is brutal
Gordon Ramsay storms in, fixes the menu, deep-cleans the walk-in, and everyone hugs by the credits. Then the cameras leave — and that's when the real story starts. Fans have been tracking every featured restaurant for years, and the numbers are genuinely grim.
The short answer
Across nine seasons of Kitchen Nightmares USA (2007–2025), 93 restaurants have been featured — and only 27 are still open, according to The Takeout's January 2026 count. That's a success rate of roughly 29%. Some fan trackers are even harsher: Reality TV Revisited puts it at 18% once the UK version is included.
The season-by-season carnage
The early years are where it gets truly bleak:
- Season 1 (2007) — 0 of 10 restaurants still open.
- Season 2 (2008–09) — 0 of 11. A perfect record, in the worst way.
- Seasons 3–7 (2010–14) — a handful of survivors per season, including standouts like Pantaleone's in Denver and Lido di Manhattan.
- Seasons 8–9 (2023–25) — 13 of 20 still trading, though these are the newest and haven't faced the test of time yet.
As Tasting Table put it in February 2026:
"A 30% success rate isn't anything to brag about" — Tasting Table, 2026.
Is it really Ramsay's fault?
Mostly no. These restaurants were already drowning when he arrived — some carrying over $500,000 in debt. Roughly 60% of all restaurants fail within a year, and 80% within five, so a struggling restaurant surviving a decade after its episode is arguably a win.
The clearest pattern from fan tracking: owners who actually implemented Ramsay's changes tended to survive; owners who argued and reverted didn't. See Amy's Baking Company — the only episode where Ramsay walked out. It closed in 2015.
What counts as a success anyway?
Worth remembering: Ms. Jean's Southern Cuisine closed in October 2022 — about a decade after its episode. Counting that as a Ramsay failure feels harsh. Meanwhile Lido di Manhattan's owner went on to open a second restaurant entirely.
For the record: the brutal maths hasn't put anyone off. Season 10 arrives on 21 July 2026 — ten more restaurants stepping willingly into the statistics.
