One of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children has had a California judge sign off on a legal surname change, as the family’s post-divorce identity shifts continue.

Hollywood families can get a bit theatrical off-screen, and you really see that with the whole saga between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt — especially when it comes to their offspring making some pretty pointed changes to their own identities. This time, it’s Vivienne’s turn at the paperwork.

Vivienne Marcheline Jolie’s name was officially changed by a California judge on 2 November 2026.

Siblings Stepping Away From ‘Pitt’

So, the news — as confirmed by People: the couple’s daughter has now had her surname legally changed. Vivienne, who turned 18 back in July, petitioned the court for the right to drop ‘Pitt’ from her name. The judge came through this week, so she’s now officially Vivienne Marcheline Jolie by law. No more double-barrel for her — just Jolie from now on. Fairly clear sign of which parent the loyalty’s with, if you ask me.

What’s striking here is Vivienne’s not the only sibling to do it. Here’s how the family name shake-up lines up so far:

  • Shiloh was the trailblazer — put her own papers in on her 18th birthday in May 2024, court approval by August that year. Now officially Shiloh Jolie.
  • Maddox filed his petition in May 2026; got his court sign-off by 14 September. He’s now Maddox Chivan Jolie.
  • Zahara sorted hers in June 2026, court confirmed her as Zahara Marley Jolie on 28 September.
  • Knox hasn’t made a legal filing (that we know of), but at his high school graduation he left ‘Pitt’ off his diploma — which is about as public a statement as you can manage without the courts.

If you’re counting, that’s four out of six Jolie-Pitt children who’ve swapped their surname in one way or another, all since 2024. And there’s not been a peep from either Jolie or Pitt on this — at least, nothing public since the court’s decision. Apparently, Vivienne cited 'personal reasons' in her petition, which, given all that’s unfolded between her parents, is probably all that needs saying.

A Bit Of Parenting Philosophy

If you’re wondering what Jolie makes of all this, she’s spoken before — all the way back in 2021, actually — about how she views her role guiding her children through all these identity changes and new stages. She called her brood 'six very individual human beings', and (not surprisingly) talked about helping them work out who they are, ups, downs, and all.
