As Sophie Turner steps into Lara Croft’s boots for the live-action reboot, Tomb Raider game star Camilla Luddington has one big, hard-won tip to help her nail the role.

If you’ve been following the saga of adapting video games for TV, you’ll know 'Tomb Raider' is next in line for an all-new live-action series. The big news: Sophie Turner, best known as Sansa Stark from 'Game of Thrones,' is taking on the Lara Croft mantel for Amazon’s Prime Video. And if that isn’t enough to pique gamer nostalgia and Hollywood curiosity, here’s a twist: Camilla Luddington, who ‘was’ Lara Croft in the rebooted games (both voice and motion capture, by the way), has some not-so-glamorous advice for Sophie as she dives into all the leaping, punching, and … probably a lot of hurting, if past experience holds up.

Camilla Knows the Physical Toll

First, a quick reminder: Luddington was the Lara Croft you heard (and technically saw, thanks to motion capture) in the gritty, action-heavy games from 2013 to 2018. It wasn’t just shouting 'Run!' into a mic—she did the full body performance, stunts and all.

Her guidance for Sophie Turner as filming ramps up? It’s honestly pretty relatable and unintentionally funny:

"Heating pads. I did a lot of crazy stuff when I was filming [the video games]. I just remember being so sore the next day. I’m sure she’s got a lot of heating pads already all over her. That would be… Yes, yes. Hot baths and heating pads."

Can we just pause for a second and appreciate how much this job sounds like running a marathon and then trying to game the pain away with self-care products?

Sophie’s Big Shoes (and Hot Pads) to Fill

  • Turner got the Lara Croft role in September 2025. Yes, you read that right—casting news dropped way earlier than filming.
  • Filming started in January 2026, so production is already underway, at least whenever Sophie isn’t sidelined by on-set injuries (which, naturally, have already happened and caused some delays).
  • Turner herself admits the role is iconic, saying she’s doing 'everything I’ve got' to live up to it, and that it’s impossible not to feel the pressure after Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander’s big-screen takes (her words, paraphrased—but you get the vibe).
  • The show’s creative head, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is running the show. If you’re a 'Fleabag' fan, that ups the stakes and the intrigue.
  • And, for all you meta fans, Luddington hopes to show up on screen at some point—ideally as a villain. No word if that’s happening, but I’d love to see it.

So, What’s Next?

As of now, there’s no official release date for Prime Video’s 'Tomb Raider,' but with production underway (and, apparently, plenty of hot baths happening), we’ll likely be seeing Turner stunt-jump her way through questionable archaeological sites soonish. Maybe someone should send her a case of those heating pads now, just to be safe.
