Avengers: Doomsday box office: here's how much it's made so far
Off the back of its trailer, Avengers: Doomsday has chalked up its first pre-sale figures.
If you thought Marvel's days of printing money at the box office were over, think again. The first wave of numbers for Avengers: Doomsday is in, and — no surprise, really — fans are opening their wallets before the film's even out.
$16.5 million in advance ticket sales
The Earliest Signs
Disney didn't waste any time: as soon as that new trailer dropped, they flung open the doors for pre-sale tickets in the States. Only, this wasn't every cinema under the sun; at first, bookings were limited to 1,000 screens — and not just any old screens, but the ones with Infinity Vision certification (yes, that's an actual thing now, apparently).
When the film actually hits cinemas in December, it's going big — over 4,000 theatres across North America. Demand has been so bonkers that exhibitors are shoehorning in extra showtimes, including Christmas Day.
There is, however, a bizarre little twist: none of that box office haul includes IMAX screens. That's not because Marvel didn't fancy it — the IMAX slots have all been snapped up by Dune: Part 3 for a full three weeks.
Stacking Up Against the Competition
It's all the more impressive when you realise that Doomsday's pre-sale take is literally double that of Deadpool and Wolverine (bear in mind, Deadpool and Wolverine still walked off with a monster $1.3 billion worldwide from an R-rated run). Marvel's clearly not done squeezing every last drop out of superhero fever just yet.
A bit of quick context:
- Avengers: Endgame opened at $357 million in North America in 2019 and eventually raked in more than $2.7 billion globally.
- Deadpool and Wolverine managed $211 million on opening weekend.
- And just to keep the superhero pipeline running, Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day lands this July, with early predictions putting its debut between $180–190 million.
For those keeping track, Avengers: Doomsday lands in cinemas on 18 December 2026. Marvel's already lined up Avengers: Secret Wars for 2027. Because in Marvel's world, there are always more worlds to save (and tickets to sell).
