Toni Collette joins Matthew McConaughey’s next romantic caper
Oscar-winning documentarian Daniel Roher’s romantic caper with Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña has locked in fresh co-stars — and the line-up includes some heavyweight names.
If you're keeping tabs on upcoming Netflix films (and why wouldn't you, given the rate they churn these out), there's one to stick on your radar: Positano. This one's a romantic caper with, frankly, an absurdly starry cast. Yes, it's set in Italy, and yes, it's got Matthew McConaughey swanning about as a charm-laden jewel thief. Standard McConaughey, then.
The new batch of castings brings the lineup to seven A-listers… and probably counting.
Extra Star Power
The cast list just ballooned in size, and not in a "job lot of extras" way. Alongside McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña, they've now brought in Toni Collette — if you've watched anything from Hereditary to Knives Out, you'll know she steals every scene she's in.
Four more have joined the Italian holiday: Karren Karagulian (Anora), Salvatore Esposito (Gomorrah), Michele Savoia (Ferrari), and Lorenzo de Moor (You, Me & Tuscany). If you sense a Mediterranean vibe forming, you're not wrong.
Who's Steering the Ship?
The director's Daniel Roher, best known for winning an Oscar (fine, technically "Documentary Feature" at the 2022 ceremony) for Navalny. Not quite what you'd expect for a glossy romantic thriller, but let's see what happens when you stick McConaughey, a picturesque Italian setting, and a jewel heist together.
Script comes courtesy of Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood. Production's under the Working Title brand — Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan are main producers, with Derrin Schlesinger on board. There are a host of executive producers too: Amelia Granger, Katherine Pomfret, plus the two writers themselves.
Plot Details and Mysteries
The actual plot's being kept tightly under wraps. All we've got is: McConaughey's jewel thief falls for a mysterious woman, tries to ditch his life of crime, and together they plan a risky "one last job" — because what else are you going to do on the Amalfi Coast? There's the usual "more than just money at stake", but nobody's willing to say who plays what yet.
Filming dates, places, or even a vague guess at when it's out... none of that's been officially announced, so you'll have to wait on Netflix for the rest.
