Tom Hardy says MobLand season 2 takes Harry's edge away: the fixer who was 'five steps ahead' is on the back foot

Harry Da Souza’s always been the bloke who keeps a step ahead, but MobLand season 2 has apparently decided to make his life absolute hell. According to Tom Hardy, the new series doesn’t let the infamous fixer plan his way out of trouble—instead, he’s left cleaning up chaos that moves faster than he does. Worth noting: the show’s been steadily more unhinged since Jez Butterworth started steering the thing, and it sounds like season 2 is ramping that up even further.
Harry’s New Reality: Scrambling, Not Scheming
Talking about how his character’s evolved, Hardy told ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns that the Harry we knew was usually "five steps ahead"—a man with a knack for knowing what’s coming before it happens. That luxury? Completely gone this series. The writers have decided to put the entire Harrigan operation on the ropes, splitting them up and chucking a properly "fearless adversary" in their path—someone you might sense was lurking in season 1 but now takes centre stage.
In Hardy’s words to ScreenRant: "This season has never been as kinetic… Harry is on the back foot, forced to respond under pressure while his team operates across different parts of the world."
Translation: All that smooth, measured fixing? Forget it. Harry’s out of his comfort zone, putting out fires while the whole organisation gets scattered to the winds—a proper mess that’s bigger than anything before. Butterworth isn’t just shaking things up—he’s actively tearing them apart before (possibly) putting them back together.

What’s Actually Happening?
The personal lives aren’t any simpler this time round. The new series kicks off with Jan (Joanne Froggatt) dealing with the aftermath of stabbing her husband. Meanwhile, Gina—played by Teddie Allen—is growing up fast, and there’s a real risk she’ll end up too much like her old man. Hardy’s hinted at more drama within the Da Souza household as well, so Harry’s adding domestic disaster to his business woes.
The villains’ line-up grows, too: Johnny Flynn joins as a fresh threat, joining Janet McTeer’s Kat and Toby Jones’ Colin. And just to make sure no one’s sleeping soundly, Paddy Considine’s Kevin is now single-mindedly plotting to finish off his own father. All told, more enemies, more stress, and plenty of unpleasant surprises ahead.
