Asked whether MobLand could go on without Tom Hardy after the reports of tension on set, Helen Mirren refused to contemplate it
Two of MobLand’s biggest names have weighed in on the Tom Hardy misconduct allegations — and they’re firmly in his corner.
Look, there have been plenty of whispers around MobLand lately, especially the sort that tend to follow shows with very big names and very loud headlines. The focus this time? Tom Hardy, who’s apparently been called out for so-called “tensions” on set. Instead of anyone giving a diplomatic PR line, two of the series’ other heavyweights – that’s Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren – have come out swinging in his defence.
Backing Hardy
When The Hollywood Reporter sat down with Brosnan and Mirren, the duo didn’t skirt the topic. They were directly asked whether they’d imagine making MobLand without Hardy – and if you expected awkward hedging, think again. Mirren shut that door immediately. Here’s what she actually told them:
‘We’re not even contemplating that. That’s not a part of any sort of contemplation whatsoever. He is the anchor of this mad whirlwind happening around that character.’
Brosnan didn’t leave it there, either. He made his own feelings impossibly clear with:
‘Tom is MobLand. Without Tom, we don’t have MobLand. He is the center. He allows us to play these crazy characters.’
Earlier this month, Brosnan had already offered his public support, even going so far as to call himself a ‘massive fan of the man’s work’. So if you thought either would be happy to continue on without Hardy at the centre, you’re barking up the wrong tree.
Season 3 and What’s Next
Now, as for the shape of MobLand season 3, we’re still being strung along a bit. Not a peep yet in terms of actual plot – they’re keeping those cards very close to their chest. What’s certain is that the new season will feature Harry Da Souza and the Harrigans dealing with the fallout from their ever-growing collection of enemies. The third outing, like the last, is lined up for 10 episodes, and yes, Hardy, Brosnan and Mirren are all back on board.
Season 2 drops on Paramount+ on 18 September 2026.
Speaking of cast, season 2 is nothing short of stacked – you’ve got Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Teddie Allen, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jasmine Jobson, Johnny Flynn, Janet McTeer, Ophelia Lovibond, and Toby Jones rounding out the main players. Behind the scenes, it’s Ronan Bennett credited as the creator, while Jez Butterworth steers the ship as showrunner.
There’s still no official date for when season 3 will actually arrive, but with production set, early indications are we’ll likely see it sometime next year.
