Rumors are flying that Tom Hardy’s been axed from Season 3 of Paramount’s hit series MobLand — and Helen Mirren just went public to back him, dropping a short, pointed show of support on social media.

If you have a social media feed even vaguely tuned into TV drama, you might have spotted the latest chaos around MobLand—Paramount+'s gangster-ish series that manages to keep making headlines, sometimes more for its behind-the-scenes drama than what actually turns up onscreen. This week, things have properly kicked off with Tom Hardy at the centre of a swirling mass of rumours and allegedly dodgy behaviour, and now Helen Mirren has popped up to put her oar in, albeit in vintage Mirren fashion: understated but pointed.

Mirren Slides Into the Fray (With Minimal Fuss)

On 28 May, Helen Mirren—most definitely the closest thing MobLand has to actual royal blood—posted a message for Hardy on her Instagram. Instead of a long defence or cryptic essay, she simply slapped a portrait of Tom Hardy up and wrote:

'Love you now and always, H'

No elaboration whatsoever. That was it—comments disabled, as if to say, 'I'm not here to debate this with you lot.' Now, that might sound non-committal, but coming from someone like Mirren, it's as close to a public vote of confidence as you’re likely to get without her turning up outside Paramount with a placard.

Firing Rumours, Producer Rows, and Alleged Tardiness

Let's back up a second, because all this started with reports flying round that Hardy had been axed from MobLand season 3. The alleged reason? Ongoing bust-ups with series writer Jez Butterworth and heavy-weight executive producer David C. Glasser. It’s the sort of 'creative differences' situation that can mean anything from proper artistic wrangling to, let’s be honest, people not being able to stand each other anymore.

But here's where it gets murky (and, let’s face it, sort of classically Hollywood). Despite the rumours, an anonymous insider insists Hardy’s position on the show isn’t gone for good:

'The door is not closed for Season 3, and things are being worked through creatively.'

Apparently, Guy Ritchie—yes, that Guy Ritchie, who’s an executive producer—is actively campaigning to keep Hardy around:

'Guy likes working with Tom.'

Here’s How the Blame Gets Passed Around

  • Hardy reportedly caused a stir on set for showing up late on more than a few occasions, and for his habit of wanting to tinker with the script. Some would call that passion, others might call it a pain.
  • Meanwhile, Butterworth, in a bit of a pot-and-kettle situation, is being blamed for repeatedly missing script deadlines—so the disruption hardly seems to be coming from just one direction.
  • None of this has prompted Paramount to actually release a statement or confirm anything. As it stands, there’s no official word on Hardy's fate, and—perhaps not coincidentally—very little being revealed about what’s actually happening with MobLand’s next run.

For now, that’s pretty much all that’s clear in this latest round of TV drama drama. If anything further leaks (and, based on past patterns, something probably will), expect the speculation and finger-pointing to continue.
