A fiercely competitive field at the 83rd Golden Globes saw Timothée Chalamet clinch a major acting prize for his role in Marty Supreme. Discover what set his performance apart and how he celebrated the win.

Timothée Chalamet’s latest accolade arrived at the 83rd Golden Globes, where he was named ‘Best Actor – Comedy or Musical’ for his turn as Marty Mauser, a ping-pong prodigy with a ruthless streak, in Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme. The part, which Chalamet has described as a long-standing obsession, saw him lugging a table tennis set across continents. “Everything I was working on, it was this secret: I had a table in London while I was making Wonka. On Dune 2, I had a table in Budapest, Jordan. I had a table in Abu Dhabi.”

Chalamet’s commitment to the role was matched by the calibre of his competition. The shortlist for the category included Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), George Clooney (Jay Kelly), Jesse Plemons (Bugonia), Lee Byung-Hun (No Other Choice), and Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another). When his name was called, Chalamet took to the stage and addressed the room with a mixture of humility and gratitude.

This category is stacked. I look up to all of you, thank you… To Josh Safdie, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for this role. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for this portrait, for your mind, for your worldview.

Dedication Behind the Scenes

Chalamet’s devotion to his craft has become something of a talking point. The actor, who hails from New York, spent seven years circling the character of Marty Mauser, weaving his table tennis practice into the fabric of his daily life, regardless of filming location. The lengths he went to in order to inhabit the role have not gone unnoticed by audiences or critics.

His performance in Marty Supreme also earned him the Critics’ Choice Award. During that ceremony, he made a point of acknowledging his partner, Kylie Jenner, for her unwavering support.

Thank you to my partner of three years. Thank you for our foundation. I love you, I couldn’t do this without you.

He echoed this sentiment at the Globes, adding,

I’d be lying if I didn’t say those moments didn’t make this moment that much sweeter for my parents, for my partner, I love you.

Ambition and Recognition

Chalamet’s ambitions have never been a secret. At the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards, he spoke candidly about his aspirations:

I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats.

This latest win is another step along that path, reinforcing his reputation as one of the most dedicated actors of his generation.

Marty Supreme made its debut at the New York Film Festival on 6 October, surprising audiences with an unannounced screening. Safdie and Chalamet introduced the film, and were later joined by co-stars including Tyler, the Creator and Gwyneth Paltrow, who appeared after the credits rolled.
