As Practical Magic 2 hits cinemas this Friday, the answer to the post‑ or mid‑credits question mirrors the original.

With Practical Magic 2 finally hitting cinemas this Friday, the usual speculation has started: is there anything worth sticking around for once the credits roll? Franchises love stuffing in those post-credits scenes these days, setting up sequels or dropping a little Easter egg for the obsessives. Marvel practically wrote the rulebook, and even Warner Bros. Pictures – distributing this one – have got form with their own properties. So, naturally, fans are poking around for any sign this supernatural lark will carry on.

Practical Magic 2 lands in UK cinemas on Friday and adapts Alice Hoffman's 2021 sequel novel, The Book of Magic.

No Sneaky Extras After the Credits

Just to cut through the noise: if you’re hoping for some cheeky mid-credits or after-credits scene, there’s nothing. Practical Magic 2 shuts up shop the moment the credits appear, same as the original film. Maybe a bit old-fashioned in the era of interconnected cinematic universes, but at least you won’t waste ten minutes gawping at scrolling names because you’ve seen too many Marvel flicks.

Back in 1998, the first Practical Magic ended with the credits, and this new one – based on The Book of Magic by Alice Hoffman, released in 2021 – follows suit. So, nothing coy for eagle-eyed fans, no hints that a third film is lurking round a corner. Could there still be another sequel one day? Of course, but don’t expect the film itself to wink at you about it.

Hope for a Sequel Depends on Box Office

What will actually determine if this series casts another spell? The simple answer: cash. If enough punters turn up and the box office doesn’t totally implode, the odds of Practical Magic 3 being pitched go up significantly.

This is where things get a bit rocky. Reviews ahead of release have not been kind; the film’s hanging at just 35% on Rotten Tomatoes as of now. That sort of critical drubbing tends to dampen studio enthusiasm, even if there’s a vocal fanbase eager for more Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman witchy shenanigans. Still, interest hasn’t dried up just yet – it’s one of those nostalgia sequels, so there’s a ready-made crowd keen to see what’s next, critical knives or no.

Just for a bit of optimism, Anna McKibbin at AV Club tried to put a brave face on it, saying:

"The stakes were high when it came to releasing Practical Magic 2, but fans will no doubt fall in love with this next chapter of the story."
