Captain America’s Chris Evan just made a wildly ‘controversial’ MCU Civil War admission
More than a decade after Captain America: Civil War split the Avengers, Chris Evans has finally picked a side — and it’s not the one you’re expecting.
Here we go again: Chris Evans has decided to stir the pot on the whole Captain America: Civil War business, even though it’s been over a decade since we watched the Avengers break up over politics (and, let’s be honest, ego). Naturally, people still want to know which side he’s on—Cap’s or Iron Man’s? And his answer might not be what you think.
Evans Picks a Side (Sort Of)
On a recent episode of the official Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday podcast, Evans was asked where he stands on that infamous Civil War debate. For those who need a refresher, the split was about the Sokovia Accords—essentially, should superheroes answer to the government or not? In the film, Captain America was all about freedom from government oversight, while Iron Man believed in a bit of regulation and accountability.
Evans was very clear that, in character, he’s loyal to Cap’s position. But when it comes to his personal view, he admitted it might rile up the fans. Here’s what Evans actually told them:
“You know, as the character, I stand by Team Cap’s position. Me personally, I might be Team Iron Man. I know that’s probably controversial to say.”
So there you have it—the man who played Captain America for a decade is apparently more of a rules-and-regulations chap in real life. Cue the Marvel fandom meltdown.
What’s Cap Been Doing?
Evans last showed up as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame back in 2019. Since then, he’s popped up just once in the MCU proper—and that was as Johnny Storm for Deadpool & Wolverine (so, a proper meta cameo). But he’s not hanging up the shield just yet. Evans is suiting up again for Avengers: Doomsday, which is due out on 18 December 2026.

The new film apparently finds Rogers reuniting with Thor and the old guard, taking on none other than Doctor Doom himself. Marvel’s keeping the plot tightly under wraps, to the point where, according to Evans, he was called Luke Cage on set just to stop leaks. As a bonus, he’s squaring off against Robert Downey Jr. again—except this time, Downey’s the villain. It’ll be Evans’ 11th time showing up in the MCU, which is either impressive or overkill depending who you ask.
