The TARDIS lands on AMC+ in the U.S. June 11, 2026, as all 13 seasons from Doctor Who’s 2005–2022 modern run relocate to the streamer.

If you thought following Doctor Who's adventures through time and space could get complicated, just try figuring out where to stream the show in the U.S. right now. Good news: the show's U.S. digital home is moving—again. Bad news: you still can't binge the whole thing in one place.

Doctor Who Sets Up Shop at AMC+ (Sort Of)

AMC+ just scored the exclusive U.S. streaming rights to what's known as 'New Who'—that's the relaunch era that kicked off back in 2005. So, starting June 11, you'll be able to stream 13 full seasons (176 episodes) of timey-wimey TV on AMC+. We're talking about the eras of:

  • Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor (the briefer, punchier reboot year)
  • David Tennant (the one lots of people claim ruined scarves for them)
  • Matt Smith (arguably the most memes per episode ratio)
  • Peter Capaldi (angrier, attack eyebrows phase)
  • Jodie Whittaker (history-making, occasionally divisive, but definitely energetic)

For context: BBC America (which is part of AMC Networks, fun fact) was Doctor Who's U.S. cable home from 2009 until 2022, so the show sort of returns to the family—just in streaming form this time.

What's Missing from the AMC+ Deal?

Here's the snag: this setup doesn't actually include everything. Not even close if you're a completionist.

Everything that stars Ncuti Gatwa—the current and Fifteenth Doctor—is still locked up on Disney+, thanks to the BBC and Disney partnership on the newest seasons. Those wild 60th anniversary specials with David Tennant's guest return? Also not part of the AMC+ batch.

Oh, and if you're looking for Classic Who (that is, pre-2005 time-traveling hijinks), you'll still need a BritBox subscription for those dusty, wonderfully low-budget episodes.

So if you're keeping score, American fans now have to juggle three separate platforms just to keep up:
AMC+ for 2005-2022 Doctor Who,
Disney+ for the latest Doctor contents,
BritBox for the OG stuff.

Yeah, it's basically a streaming scavenger hunt.

The Money Angle

AMC+ is making a bit of a play for new subscribers here by announcing a 'limited-time' one-year subscription offer at $29.99, available through May 25. It's timed nicely with the 20th anniversary of the modern Doctor Who era kicking off in the U.S.

What's Next for the Doctor?

The future of the franchise is—no surprise—still generating plenty of debate. The Disney era, honestly, has split a chunk of the fandom. There's a fair amount of head-scratching and speculation about where things are heading next, especially with Russell T Davies (the guy who brought New Who back in the first place) still pulling the strings behind the scenes. For now, it looks like the next big event is a Christmas special lined up for 2026.

'The Whoniverse is as scattered as the TARDIS after an engine malfunction. If you want to watch in order, you either need three subscriptions or a very patient friend with excellent digital organization skills.'

So, Who Are We Watching?

Quick refresher: The Doctor is an alien from Gallifrey who zips through all of time and space in the TARDIS (that blue police box thing—way more than it seems!) fighting monsters, fixing problems, and meeting humans who inevitably ask how tea always tastes so weird on spaceships. The show's been around, in one form or another, since 1963, so it's definitely picked up some streaming baggage along the way.
