Netflix’s acclaimed legal drama is gearing up for its final season — and at last we’ve got a rough idea of when you can press play.

Netflix hasn’t exactly struggled with courtroom dramas lately, but The Lincoln Lawyer has managed to be one of the few that genuinely stuck with viewers — racking up praise from critics and getting cosy in the Global Top 10 nearly every time it drops a new series. The drama follows Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), a defence lawyer with a rather colourful past and a fondness for conducting business from the back seat of his Lincoln. It’s based on the Michael Connelly novels, and yes, he’s had a hand in keeping elements straight for TV as well.

Season 5: That’s All, Folks

Now, for those hoping The Lincoln Lawyer would be running round Los Angeles forever, Netflix had other ideas. As Season 4 landed in May, the streamer announced that a fifth series would happen — but it’s also the last. Fans held out hope for a quick return, especially after Michael Connelly chimed in on Threads, saying the new season is due in 2027.

Season 5 arrives on Netflix in 2027 — and it will be the show’s final run.

If you’re desperate for a more precise date, you’ll be waiting a while: filming for the fifth series wrapped in July 2026. For reference, Season 3 shot through to June 2024 and was out by that October, but Season 4 — which finished filming mid-2025 — didn’t premiere until February 2026. So Netflix are much more likely to go with the Season 4 routine, which means you should expect Season 5 to land sometime early in 2027. It’s pretty much certain you won’t see it before then, no matter how optimistic you feel.

What’s Left (and Who's in the Car)

Like the previous runs, Season 5 will feature 10 episodes. This final outing adapts Connelly’s seventh Haller book, Resurrection Walk — for anyone out there ticking them off their reading list. The cast is set to be a sort of greatest hits of familiar faces. Obviously, Garcia-Rulfo is back as the ever-resourceful Mickey, with Becki Newton returning as his ex-wife Lorna Crane, and Jazz Raycole once again playing ex-driver and loyal sidekick Izzy Letts. The guest star contingent includes Chris Diamantopoulos, Diane Guerrero, and Iker Garcia.

  • Cobie Smulders joins as Emi Finch, a surprise half-sister introduced in Season 4’s finale, with a possible spin-off in the works (though it’s not greenlit yet).

Netflix aren’t rushing out of Mickey Haller’s world just yet, it would seem — especially since Smulders' character is pegged for her own series if all goes to plan. How long that will take or if it’ll even happen, there are no clear answers, but development is moving along.

The Creators’ Last Word

As for the finale itself, showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez have made all the usual promises you’d expect whenever a series is about to take its last lap, but at least they’re not dodging the question:

Here’s how Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez put it in their (joint) statement, aimed straight at longtime fans:

We promise you, we are right now building a final season that will provide the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves. We can’t wait to share it with you!
