After episode 3’s ominous setup, The Boys season 5 episode 4 shoves Homelander into the role he’s always craved, transforming the unhinged leader of the Seven into a full-blown nightmare and ushering in a terrifying new status quo.

So, The Boys Season 5 is really out here pushing Homelander into brand new territory—and I mean that in the most unhinged way possible. If you thought his whole 'narcissistic demigod with an anger management problem' shtick was already dialed up high, just wait until you see what Episode 4 is doing with him now.

Homelander's God Complex? It's Not a Metaphor Anymore

In classic Boys fashion, things kick off with Homelander sharing his latest 'revelation' with Firecracker—who, for context, is as impressionable as ever. He claims to have had a divine vision from none other than the ghostly (and probably imaginary) Madelyn Stilwell, and he’s more convinced than ever that he’s literally a god among mortals. This isn't just a private power trip—he actually tells Firecracker to start a PR blitz to sell his new deity status to the world.

Firecracker, appropriately terrified and also kind of into it, ropes in Ashley and her husband (who is apparently going by 'Oh-Father' these days—yes, that’s real). Their new plan: get the masses onboard with the 'Homelander is God now' campaign.

Oh-Father even gives a speech basically rebranding their whole super-church operation. 'We are making a divine rebranding,' he tells the audience, and then rides the 'patriotism plus faith' wave, essentially mashing up America’s founding with superhero worship. That’s their new gospel, and the church itself gets a snazzy new name: Democratic Church of America (subtlety is dead in this show).

Oh-Father introduces Homelander to the crowd, gives the signal, and blasts the audience with his super-powered scream—because nothing says 'accept me as your god' like being forcibly mind-melded by a supe with vocal shockwaves. Homelander laps it up, arms outstretched in the stage lights, just basking in his messianic moment.

Meanwhile: Uranium Lockdowns and Spore-Fueled Brawls

But don’t worry, there was plenty of mayhem outside the preacher circuit too. Earlier in the episode, Soldier Boy stashes Homelander away in a uranium chamber (nice parenting, right?) to block him from grabbing more Compound V1—the stuff that would basically make him immortal. It's an awkward family reunion, super-style.

The Boys themselves (the actual team, not just the title) weren’t exactly in tip-top shape either. Their latest scuffle? It turns out, direct exposure to Supe-generated brain spores will do a number on your mood. Everyone’s duking it out with each other after exposure to spores from a supe named Quinn—well, everyone except for Frenchie, whose years of surviving chemical abuse accidentally come in handy (not the hero’s journey most writers would choose, but sure).

  • Frenchie & Soldier Boy: Tag team to put a stop to Quinn. Soldier Boy finishes things with a dose of his signature move: the B.L.C. Red (yep, another supe-specific chemical cocktail).
  • Homelander: Survives the uranium poisoning and eventually escapes. He finds Soldier Boy, but after hearing there’s no V1 to be had, just kind of lets him go.

Where to Watch (& How to Brace Yourself)

If you’re caught up, you know what to expect (sort of). If you’re not, consider this your spoiler alert: Episodes 1-4 of The Boys Season 5 are now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. And with this new god-tier level of Homelander crazy, I doubt the chaos is slowing down anytime soon.
