Most of The Boys cast is celebrating the Season 5 finale, but one star isn’t on board — and their reason might make you rethink that ending. The capper hit theaters a day early before premiering May 20, 2026.

So, The Boys has officially wrapped things up, and most of the cast are walking away with a sense of satisfaction—well, except for one rather vocal exception. If you’re expecting the usual grinning and back-slapping about 'what a journey it’s been', you might be in for a bit more candour than that.

The End of the Line (…for Most of Them)

The final episode of The Boys dropped on the 20th of May, 2026, with a cheeky cinema premiere the night before (because, apparently, binge-watching from your sofa isn’t quite glamorous enough). The curtain’s come down after five series, and most of the main cast seem fairly content with how things wrapped up.

Jensen Ackles—who joined the show as Soldier Boy—was, shall we say, less than thrilled. When asked if he was happy with the ending, Ackles cut straight to the point:

"No, because it’s ending."

That’s it. Short, sharp, almost as blunt as one of Billy Butcher’s rants. Ackles reckons The Boys deserved a much longer run—he even called out the fifteen-season marathon that was Supernatural, the show he previously starred in. Five series, he says, just isn’t enough. Still, he’s got a consolation prize: he’ll be leading the upcoming spin-off Vought Rising. So don’t worry too much about him disappearing from your telly.

What Did Everyone Else Think?

  • Erin Moriarty (Starlight): She put it down as 'really satisfied,' but in a totally honest twist, admitted that some of that was for 'selfish reasons'—though she didn’t spill what those were.
  • Tomer Capone (Frenchie): He seemed properly chuffed with their send-off, saying, 'We gave you guys one hell of a ride.' No complaints there.
  • Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk): Alonso was happy too—mainly because the show wrapped up on their terms, rather than being yanked off-air unexpectedly. Always a good sign that the creative team were able to stick the landing the way they wanted.
  • Cameron Crovetti (Ryan Butcher): Crovetti was excited from the moment he read the finale script—his words: 'It’s sick.' No ambiguity there.
  • Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett): She’s pleased not only with her own character arc but also how the writers managed to deal with the rest of the ensemble. 'I’m really satisfied with what happens to a lot of other characters, without giving too much away,' she said. Credit where it’s due, she also praised the showrunners for tying up loose ends in a neat (if bloody) little bow.
  • Susan Heyward (Sister Sage): She talked about getting the draft for the final episode and feeling strongly about where things were headed. Apparently she spoke her mind to the writers and felt 'heard', which is more than a lot of actors can say.

Last Thoughts

So that’s the mood backstage as The Boys makes its rather chaotic exit. Apart from Ackles, who’s just a bit gutted not to milk it for another decade, most of the main players are genuinely on board with how things wrapped up. Always refreshing to see a series go out on its own terms, instead of the network axe or dragging it out until nobody’s watching.
